N.H. man killed mother, then himself, officials say

Dover murder-suicide – Autopsy results released Wednesday concluded that Eileen Shevelin, 78, was killed by her son, Thomas Wallace, 57, in their shared home in Dover, New Hampshire, before Wallace died by suicide from a gunshot wound.

The discovery began as a welfare check, and by the time police found their bodies, the outcome was already final.

Autopsy results released on Wednesday confirmed that Eileen Shevelin, 78, was killed by her son, Thomas Wallace, 57, in a murder-suicide, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Dover Police Chief David Terlemezian said in a joint press release Wednesday.

The two lived together on Dover Point Road in Dover, New Hampshire, officials said previously. The autopsy findings indicate that, at some point on either May 25 or May 26, Wallace killed his mother in their shared home before dying by suicide.

According to police, Shevelin died by asphyxiation, and her manner of death was ruled a homicide. Wallace’s death was determined to be suicide by a gunshot wound to the head.

Police discovered their bodies on Tuesday during a follow-up welfare check, officials said Tuesday. Formella’s office said officials do not expect to release further information, and the family of those involved is asking for privacy at this time.

For now, the public record stops at the facts already confirmed in the autopsy results: a home address on Dover Point Road, a narrow window of May 25 or May 26, and the combination of homicide and suicide that ended the lives of two people who shared the same household.
