Jeffries Fires Back at Trump’s Iran Deal Insult

Jeffries fires – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took aim at Donald Trump’s “Obama derangement syndrome” jab while pressing his case that the 2015 Iran nuclear deal better constrained Iran’s enrichment program—and warning that Trump’s war has made Americans less safe.
On Sunday, Hakeem Jeffries didn’t just criticize Donald Trump’s approach to Iran—he turned one of Trump’s favorite lines back on him.
During an appearance on “Meet the Press. ” the House Minority Leader (D-N.Y.) was asked whether the war would have been “worth it” if Trump reaches an agreement that “ultimately leads” to Iran getting rid of its nuclear enrichment program. Jeffries pivoted away from the deal being sought now and instead pointed to the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. which he said was designed to “constrain” Iran’s nuclear enrichment under then-President Barack Obama.
“It was Donald Trump who made the decision to rip that agreement up because apparently he suffers from Obama derangement syndrome,” Jeffries said, using the same kind of insult Trump has leaned on against critics—but aiming it at Trump’s own choice to dismantle Obama-era efforts.
Jeffries argued that the 2015 deal relied on a coalition effect, stressing that several countries—including China and Russia—came together to limit Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
He tied that to what he called the consequences of Trump’s decision to move away from the 2015 framework. “Donald Trump then enters us into this reckless and costly war of choice. and the question that the American people are understandably asking is how has this in any way made things better?” Jeffries said.
Jeffries said the American people are feeling the strain in their daily lives. “Gas prices are through the roof, Iran is stronger now — not weaker — and the American people are less safe.”
While Jeffries was pressing his argument at home, Trump was mixing diplomacy with public scolding abroad. As Trump looks to strike a deal with Iran on Sunday—the day of his 80th birthday—he posted on his Truth Social platform to criticize Israel for its attack on Beirut on Sunday.
“We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon, and all sides should stand down,” Trump wrote.
He followed up with a more urgent tone: “This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it!”
Iranian officials suggested Sunday that the Israeli strike on Beirut could undercut the negotiations between the U.S. and Iran—an escalation that sits uneasily beside Trump’s message that a breakthrough is near.
The sequence—Jeffries framing Trump’s Iran shift as a break from the 2015 constraints. Trump describing a near-term deal while blaming Israel. and Iranian officials warning that the Beirut strike could disrupt talks—leaves little room to pretend the debate is only about paper terms. It’s about whether pressure is producing leverage or whether it’s driving the region further from calm.

So basically Jeffries is mad Trump didn’t keep the deal? ok.
I swear these politicians just trade insults and meanwhile nobody knows what’s going on. If gas is high then it’s not just Iran, it’s like everything. Also “less safe” like… from what exactly, a bomb at my grocery store??
Wait, I thought the whole point was Trump had a better plan than the 2015 Iran deal? Jeffries saying China and Russia helped constrain Iran sounds like wishful thinking. Like if China and Russia were really on board then why wouldn’t Iran already be totally stopped? I’m confused.
“Obama derangement syndrome” is such a dumb phrase, but I kinda get why he’s saying it. Trump pulled out, now Iran stronger, gas through the roof… yeah that adds up in my head even if I’m not reading the fine print. We’re always paying the price for some deal either way, it’s exhausting.
