Jason Sudeikis got candid about his love life on the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, admitting he’s currently single and describing relationships as something that feels different once you’re a parent—especially when your kids come first.
Jason Sudeikis didn’t dodge the question when it came to his dating life.
Nearly six years after ending his relationship with ex-fiancée Olivia Wilde, the “Ted Lasso” star, 50, said he’s currently single. He shared the update on the Tuesday, June 2 episode of the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast.
The conversation moved quickly. When cohost Lil Dicky asked what it’s like being single, Sudeikis kept it simple: “Ups and downs.” Then Kristin Batalucco, cohost and Lil Dicky’s wife, pressed him on whether he’s “more of a relationship guy.”
Sudeikis’ answer wasn’t just about availability—it was about approach. “I like being in relation to people. ” he said. adding that he’s “not at a point in my life where it feels good or fulfilling to date numerous people all at once.” For him. that kind of multitasking doesn’t feel right. “That feels daunting and overwhelming, especially with being a parent,” he explained.
The actor said becoming a father changed how he thinks about dating. He shares son Otis, 12, and daughter Daisy, 9, with Wilde, 42. And those priorities show up clearly in the way he described the emotional math of relationships. “There’s also a new thing of anyone I’m dating. that they are never number one on the callsheet. as the showbiz saying would go. The kids are,” he explained. “Even probably more so than myself.”.
As he put it, time and responsibility only make the idea sharper: “Then there’s that little bit as you get older, you’re like, ‘Oh God, I gotta make sure my cup’s full in order for other people to get the overflow.’”
Elsewhere in the episode, cohost Benny Blanco asked whether he wanted more children. “I would if I fell in love,” Sudeikis said.
He also talked about parenting, responding to whether he’s a strict father. “It’s all relative,” he said, “but I think ish. Like, about manners and stuff and saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’”
And when the topic turned to humor in the household, Sudeikis leaned into genuine pride. “Oh my gosh, they’re so funny. They’re getting funnier and funnier as they go. Daisy’s been funny from jump,” he gushed.
Sudeikis and Wilde started dating in 2011 and got engaged two years later, with engagement taking place in January 2013. Their son Otis was born in April 2014, and their daughter Daisy arrived in October 2016. They split in November 2020.
The podcast comments land on the heels of earlier openness about the public fallout. In a July 2021 interview with GQ. Sudeikis said he was still processing the split. describing how understanding would come later—“a better understanding of why in a year. and an even better one in two. and an even greater one in five”—as the story shifted “from being. you know. a book of my life to becoming a chapter to a paragraph to a line to a word to a doodle.”.
He added, “That’s an experience that you either learn from or make excuses about. You take some responsibility for it, hold yourself accountable for what you do, but then also endeavor to learn something beyond the obvious from it.”
