Jason Momoa fears On the Roam’s last season

Jason Momoa says he thinks his HBO travel series On the Roam is likely heading into its final season, even as Season 2 is set to arrive on May 14.

On the Roam has always sold its joy the same way: Momoa hits the road, meets people with unusual jobs, and lets their stories do the heavy lifting. But in a recent interview, the energy coming from the star wasn’t certainty about the future—it was a quiet, blunt worry.

Jason Momoa told ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns that he believes Season 3 may not happen. “I think this is probably our last season.” He added that he doesn’t know how well the show performs for HBO. even though he’s clearly still excited about what it can do. “You never kind of know,” he said. He also said he felt grateful they were able to make a second season—something he said might be harder than it looks.

The challenge, he explained, isn’t just scheduling. “I got a day job that’s really f—-ng hard to [make this],” he said. “This could come out a lot sooner, and they’d probably like that to come out a lot sooner. It just takes a long time. but it’s worth the wait.” For Momoa. the pace matters because the show’s format relies on time—time to travel. time to listen. time to dig into the kind of passion most people carry quietly in their own neighborhoods.

He pointed to what the series is really built around: the “passion and a thirst to learn something” that he says exists everywhere. alongside “something to offer.” He described the conversations he loves—moments where people trade knowledge. point to what they’ve watched. and connect through shared curiosity. “I hope this show inspires people. ” he said. adding that inspiration isn’t supposed to come from far away or famous strangers. “There are tons of people in your own neighborhood. let alone your own town. let alone your own city. let alone your own state.”.

For viewers, the most personal part of his message lands in the way he talks about continuity. Even if the series ends, he doesn’t seem to imagine the road stopping. “We’re always going to be on the roam,” he said. “It’s just a matter if we make a f—-ng show about it, but we hope. [Laughs]”

On the Roam first aired on HBO in 2024 and ran eight episodes. Season 2 premieres May 14.

The conversation about future seasons sits inside a larger moment for travel TV—especially celebrity-led travel series that are finding renewed attention. On the Roam arrives alongside shows like Conan O’Brien Must Go. which uses a tighter comedy approach while still placing a celebrity outside the traditional reality space at the center. Conan O’Brien Must Go similarly features a celebrity host.

Even without massive critical data for On the Roam, audience response has been strong. On the Roam Season 1 does not have enough reviews to form a Tomatometer. but it has a 78% Popcornmeter score among audiences. Conan O’Brien Must Go posts an 84% Popcornmeter and an 88% Tomatometer average across its two seasons.

That reception comes with another advantage: Momoa himself. He’s become a widely beloved figure from Aquaman and Game of Thrones, and more recently from A Minecraft Movie, and his stardom helps lift attention around On the Roam.

And yet, even if Season 3 doesn’t arrive, Season 2 is still being shaped as a finale-worthy road. Momoa’s comments make it clear the show’s long-term uncertainty may be real—but the second installment is still expected to deliver high-profile guests. including former Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.

So, for now, it’s a strange mix for fans: anticipation for Season 2 on May 14, paired with the sense that Momoa may be bracing everyone for a final lap.
