Maddox and Shiloh reportedly went a step further by making the change legal. The eldest son has just made the request this week. and if it’s granted. he will go by Maddox Chivan Jolie moving forward.
For Pitt, the shock isn’t just that family dynamics have shifted. A source says the hardest part is that his children don’t want a public association with his last name. “He feels most hurt out of everything that happened with Angie that his children don’t want a public association with his last name. It’s been very difficult,” the insider told Us Weekly on Friday.
The name changes come against a much bigger and more bitter backdrop. The divorce followed allegations that Pitt physically attacked and verbally abused Angelina and the children before the split. An old court filing also claims the alleged physical abuse of the Maleficent actress “started well before the family’s September 2016 plane trip.” The source’s account adds another layer to the damage by suggesting that some of Pitt’s “pals” keep blaming Jolie for strained relationships instead of addressing Pitt’s alleged actions.
Brad, though, isn’t closing the door. The Bullet Train star is reportedly hopeful that things can change eventually. with the understanding that he can’t force reconciliation. The insider said. “[Brad] still does hope and keeps the door open to eventual reconciliation. hopefully with all of them. but it is their decision. He has no power and he can’t force them.”.

The source adds that Pitt’s biggest concern is time. “[Brad’s] biggest fear is to be permanently disconnected from the kids because he does want to find a way to make things right. His biggest fear is that too much time is going by and the more time without something happening. the harder it will be to reconcile.”.
In the end, it still isn’t his call. Most of the children are adults now, and they decide if they’ll reconnect—at least for now, the reported stance seems to be that they don’t.
