Hopkinton police say they are investigating a suspicious video circulating online that appears to show a person in a construction vest and helmet walking into a roadway late at night, after a Reddit user described it near Route 85 around 11:30 p.m.
Around 11:30 p.m. in Hopkinton, someone driving home on a road off Route 85 says they looked up and saw a figure stepping into the roadway.
In a Reddit post shared to the Massachusetts subreddit around 1 a.m. Thursday. a user named “SadShock6569” described what they thought they were witnessing: a person wearing what appeared to be a construction vest and hard hat. holding a shovel. and possibly wearing a Halloween mask. The post said the person was walking onto the road in front of the driver and that the car swerved to avoid them.
The post also said the person appeared to cross only after noticing the vehicle, with the user claiming they pulled video from a dashcam and that there were “no trucks or cones or anything construction related” in the area at the time.
Soon after, Hopkinton police began investigating a video that appears to show the same moment. In a statement. the Hopkinton Police Department said the footage—initially posted by the Reddit user and later shared by the department on Facebook—shows “a suspicious individual walking into the middle of the road wearing what appears to be a construction vest and helmet as a car drives by and swerves to avoid them.”.
The department said an investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information about the video or the person in it to contact authorities at 508-497-3401. The case has drawn attention because. even as viewers speculate about what motivated the person. the basic facts captured on video point to a dangerous situation unfolding late at night—close enough to force a driver to swerve.

How is no one saying where the construction vest came from? If there were no cones/trucks then why would someone dress like that and just walk out there?? Hope they find them fast.
Wait so the car swerved and that’s it? I saw something similar on a TikTok where it was like homeless folks walking in the road, and everyone blamed “Halloween masks.” Could be the same vibe. I’m not even sure it’s real footage or just edited.
I hate these ‘viral videos’ because half the comments don’t even realize it’s near Route 85 and people drive crazy there anyway. Also, if the police posted it on Facebook, that means they already know who it is?? Or maybe they’re just farming tips. Either way, wearing a helmet and vest doesn’t mean they’re legit construction, sounds like someone wanted attention.
