Hakimi heads to trial as Morocco match looms

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi said he is facing a rape trial and welcomed the chance to explain his side, even as he prepares to join the Morocco squad to play Scotland later on Friday.

Achraf Hakimi stepped into a new kind of spotlight with one sentence and a deadline already circled on his calendar: he’s set to join Morocco for a match against Scotland later on Friday, even as he said he faces a rape trial.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender, 27, posted that the story being told about him is “not mine,” writing that it has been told “at the expense of my family, my life, and above all, the truth.” He added, “Sometimes I feel like I’ve become an easy target.”

Hakimi said he has been waiting for the trial “since day one” and that he was “looking forward to it.” He wrote: “Finally, I’ll be able to speak out.”

He is due to join the Morocco squad against Scotland later on Friday. Earlier, Hakimi played for Morocco during its 2026 World Cup opener against Brazil on Sunday. The timing leaves little room for distraction—except that the court case is now a central part of his public life.

French media reported that the Versailles appeals court rejected his appeal against his referral to criminal court, clearing the way for a trial in criminal court at some point in the future. It was not immediately clear when the trial would begin.

Hakimi’s lawyer, PSG, and the Moroccan national football association did not respond right away to requests for comment. It also remained unclear whether Hakimi would take the pitch in Boston later on Friday.

The case began after the Nanterre prosecutor’s office opened an investigation in 2023 following an allegation of rape against Hakimi. French newspaper Le Parisien reported at the time that a then-24-year-old woman said she had been raped.

Between the rejected appeal in Versailles and the absence of a trial date. one tension sits at the center of the story: Hakimi is pushing for his chance to speak. while the timeline remains uncertain for his legal process—leaving his team schedule and his personal defense path running on parallel tracks.

  1. Honestly I don’t even know what’s happening, but if they rejected his appeal then it’s probably serious. Also why is sports always getting priority like??

  2. Isn’t this the same dude who scored a bunch then suddenly everything came out? Like I feel bad for his family but also this feels like one of those “timing” things where everyone already decided. I saw Versailles court mentioned and thought that was in Morocco for some reason.

  3. He says the story isn’t his and that he’s an easy target… okay but the investigation started in 2023, so that’s not exactly brand new. The article says trial date isn’t clear so he just gets to go play first? That part makes me mad, like how convenient. Also “Boston later on Friday” like where did that come from, is that Morocco’s thing or PSG? Either way, this headline is gonna follow him everywhere.
