Grumpy returns with ‘Twenty Five’ and time-travel love

Grumpy’s ‘Twenty – Grumpy has released ‘Twenty Five,’ their Heaven Schmitt-led project’s first single of 2026. In the song, time travel becomes a promise—leave a clue, change nothing that prevents a future meeting, and make it back to 2025.
Grumpy’s new single, ‘Twenty Five,’ arrives like a message slipped into the past. The track is the Heaven Schmitt-led project’s first release of 2026, and it’s built around a tender, uneasy idea: what if love were strong enough to worry about timelines breaking.
In a statement. Schmitt described the song as being about loving her so much that a “really selfish thought” appears—“Oh God. what if you could do that and we never meet?” The lyric’s central plea comes through as a practical instruction for the future: if she ever gets the chance to travel back. leave something behind so she can return and find him.
Schmitt elaborated on how the idea formed at home. saying “Ellie and I were at home and we were talking about being trans and time travel.” They shared that Ellie wished she could go back in time to transition at a younger age. From that wish. Schmitt turned to the fear beneath it: “I then had such a sefilsh thought; I worried that. if she went back in time and changed something. what if it altered the future such that we never met?” The solution they put into the song is precise—“I told her. if she ever gets the opportunity to travel back in time. make sure she can get back to me and meet me in 2025.”.
Schmitt said the lyrics at the beginning sum it up: “when you travel back, leave a clue so that you can still find me when you get to 2025.’”
This new single also lands after a busy stretch with Bayonet Records. Since signing to the label in 2024, Grumpy have released two EPs for Bayonet Records: Wolfed and Piebald. Alongside ‘Twenty Five,’ listeners are invited to revisit Grumpy’s Artist Spotlight interview.

So it’s like Back to the Future but sad? lol.
I read “time travel love” and immediately thought it was gonna be cheesy, but the whole “don’t change the future or we never meet” thing is kinda intense. Also the trans part—good for them for saying it out loud.
Wait so the song is telling someone to leave a clue in 2025? Like… a literal clue? I’m confused because it says “change nothing” but also “leave a clue” so which one is it? Either way I guess Ellie is trying to transition younger? not sure how that works with timelines but okay.
Bayonet Records again?? Doesn’t seem like Grumpy ever stops releasing stuff. I don’t even know what EPs are anymore but I keep seeing “Wolfed” and “Piebald” everywhere. The lyric about “selfish thought” sounds like they’re admitting the fear that love changes everything, which is… relatable? I just wanna know if they meet in 2025 or if the whole point is it doesn’t happen.
