Seinfeld says Larry David gets ‘fired up’ politically

Jerry Seinfeld confirmed that Larry David does get “fired up” about politics when they’re socializing—but he makes it funny, and Seinfeld says that’s part of how people adjust in relationships where political views don’t match.

Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t dodge the awkward dinner-table question. When podcast host Adam Carolla asked whether his longtime friend Larry David gets “fired up” about politics while eating with friends, Seinfeld answered directly: yes.

The conversation came on the Monday episode of Carolla’s podcast, after Seinfeld and David had dinner together the night before. Carolla pressed him because he suspected David’s political intensity might be real even when the conversation isn’t tied to a stage or a microphone.

“But does Larry get fired up about politics and stuff when you socialize with him?” Carolla asked.

Seinfeld didn’t hesitate. “Yes, he does. But with Larry, everything is funny,” he said. Seinfeld added that what makes David’s political rants different is the way he frames what he notices. “His angle, the things he notices are funny. He’s just the funniest, most talented guy I’ve ever met.”

Carolla agreed with him, and the discussion widened from David’s instincts to how people live with mismatched politics at close range.

The topic shifted when Carolla said he recently ran into David’s wife, Ashley Underwood. He described Underwood telling him her politics are a lot different than Larry’s. “Ashley was telling me her politics are a lot different than Larry’s,” Carolla said. “And I was like ‘Well, how does that work?. Because Larry seems pretty amped up about it. Like, how do you live with that person?’”.

Seinfeld’s answer was simple: Carolla should understand that marriage requires adjustment. “in marriage, we do have to adjust a little bit.”

Carolla, in turn, joked about the tradeoff. “that’s probably why I’m divorced,” he said, prompting Seinfeld to chuckle.

That personal thread led Carolla back to his own long friendship with Jimmy Kimmel, who, like David, has political views that don’t line up with his. Carolla pointed out he’s been friends with Kimmel for more than 30 years—an endurance story that matters more when the politics differ.

Kimmel’s politics are described as especially different from Carolla’s when it comes to President Donald Trump. The same source that frames their relationship also notes that Kimmel has had a feud with the president for years, while Carolla supports Trump.

Even with that tension, the two former hosts of The Man Show have stayed friends.

Kimmel said he doesn’t always agree with Carolla politically, but he values him for more than ideology. “Adam and I. as you probably know. don’t agree much when it comes to politics. ” Kimmel said last month at Carolla’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. “But I love him dearly. I’ve never worked with anyone funnier.”.

In the end, Seinfeld’s message to Carolla reads like a practical rule for modern social life: politics can be loud, even at dinner—but if you’re living with the person, you learn how to keep it in the realm where laughter still lands.

  1. I mean if they’re getting “fired up” at dinner that sounds exhausting lol. Also why is Carolla interviewing like this is normal dinner conversation.

  2. Wait did I read that right? Larry David’s wife has different politics, and Jerry’s like “adjust”?? That’s basically what I do with my cousin too, except mine doesn’t rant at the table, he just argues about sports.

  3. This whole thing is weird to me. Like first it’s Seinfeld talking about Larry being fired up politically… then it turns into relationship advice? I’m pretty sure comedy people just say stuff for the headlines anyway. And Carolla being like “that’s probably why I’m divorced” felt like he was steering it into his own thing more than actual politics.
