Masters of the Universe is an upcoming sword and sorcery movie directed by Travis Knight. bringing the long-running Mattel franchise back to the big screen with a new ensemble take. The script is by Chris Butler. Aaron and Adam Nee. and David Callaham. and the film follows the 1987 live-action version as the second such adaptation.
In the film, Nicholas Galitzine plays Prince Adam, also known as He-Man. His story begins after many years away. when he returns to Eternia only to find his home world in ruins—under the control of Skeletor. a powerful warlord and sorcerer. To save Eternia and stop the destruction of the universe, Adam must accept his true identity as He-Man.
Baccarin is cast as the Sorceress, a key magical figure in the story. She is tied to the protection of Castle Grayskull and plays an important role in guiding the heroes. Filming took place in London between January and June 2025. The movie later held its premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on May 18. It is now set for a theatrical release in the United States on June 5, with international distribution handled by Sony Pictures Releasing International.
The story itself tracks Prince Adam’s return after being separated from his royal life for 15 years. The Sword of Power brings him back, but he arrives to find a broken world ruled by Skeletor.
