Wildfire near Tulameen grows to 57 hectares, alerts unchanged

Wildfire near small Similkameen community still out of control as evacuation alerts continue Wildfire at 57 hectares No changes to evacuation alerts have been made in areas surrounding the Grasshopper Mountain wildfire in the Similkameen. The fire, located near the small community of Tulameen, sparked Tuesday and quickly grew visibly. It is now, as of Wednesday morning, mapped at 57 hectares. Properties west of Tulameen on Lawless Creek Road and Tulameen River Road are under official evacuation alert, a full list of which can be

found here. In an update Wednesday morning, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen stated no changes had been made overnight to the alerts, and another update is coming up later this afternoon. Castanet will continue to update this story throughout the day as needed.

  1. No changes to evacuation alerts is kind of scary. Like are they waiting for it to jump a highway or what? I hope people west of Tulameen take it seriously.

  2. Is this the one that started because of lightning? I feel like they always say it “sparked Tuesday” and then never say the cause. Also why is it on Lawless Creek Road and not closer to town where everyone can see it?

  3. 57 hectares mapped doesn’t mean anything to me tbh, fires can be bigger than what they measure. If they’re saying another update later this afternoon, that just sounds like more time for it to get worse. I saw someone post that evacuation alerts “never change” and that’s usually when people get caught off guard, so… yeah.
