England coaches clash as Quansah red sparks chaos

Jarell Quansah was still in motion when the challenge landed—and in the seconds that followed, Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca felt like it started to tip.

The England right back flew in early into the second half and. when no foul was given. the atmosphere shifted from match tension to something sharper. On the touchline. England’s staff and their Mexican counterparts soon became embroiled in a heated scrap. with England assistant Anthony Barry among those drawn into the melee near the Mexico bench.

It was moments before a VAR review that turned the temperature even higher. After the review, Quansah’s foul was upgraded and the right back was shown a straight red card.

England’s path to this knockout tie had looked so clean at first. Jude Bellingham put them ahead twice in the first half, scoring 98 seconds apart to move England into a 2-0 lead. Mexico responded before half-time, pulling one back to keep the contest alive.

But the second half brought a burst of volatility. Five minutes in. Quansah’s rash challenge was initially waved away by the referee. and the reaction on the sidelines was immediate. The disruption only grew when England then suffered a cynical. reckless foul on the touchline at the other end. with Anthony Gordon singled out.

Quansah was visibly distraught as the red card was confirmed. Still, England refused to be dragged into the chaos. Jordan Pickford dived to the right, but Raul Jimenez—Mexico’s Wolves striker—converted the penalty and narrowed the score to 3-2 just before the second half hydration break.

  2. I think Mexico started it honestly, like the crowd and coaches were already mad and then Quansah got unlucky. But also that touchline thing? idk I feel like England got frustrated after the fouls.

  3. So VAR upgraded the foul and bam red… but the article said it was waved away first? sounds like refs changed their mind like 5 minutes later. Also Bellingham scored twice but then everything went to chaos, feels like the match was cursed or whatever.
