Brigden honors firefighters with antique truck and open house

“In its day that 1926 there was a pretty good truck and everybody was happy to have it,” said Richard Boyes, St. Clair Township’s fire chief. The historic truck was parked next to a brand-new 2026 truck that is just going into service, he noted. “The station thought it was a good way to commemorate it and it shows you a little bit of the difference,” Boyes said. “It’ll be interesting to see if that new one will be here in 100 years and what

it looks like.” But the chief noted Saturday’s event was really a celebration of the firefighters themselves. “The truck’s good, but without the volunteer firefighters here it’d be a whole different story,” he said. A poster for the open house said they were celebrating 100 years of service, dedication and the community. It featured fire safety demonstrations, a free barbecue, the antique fire truck, a drone demonstration, kids’ face painting, and tours of the station. “Lots of fun things to see and do for the

whole family. Hope to see you there,” the fire department wrote on its Facebook page. tbridge@postmedia.com

  1. Wait so it’s 100 years of the fire department or 100 years of the truck? I’m confused. Either way I love when they do stuff for the community, free barbecue always helps.

  2. So they got a 1926 truck and a 2026 truck… but the 2026 one is “just going into service” now? That’s like future tech lol. Also volunteers are the real heroes, but I swear every town’s fire department needs money and this is just a distraction.

  3. Drone demonstration at a fire station sounds like a recipe for disaster, but I guess it’s for kids? I didn’t even read the whole thing, just saw antique truck and barbecue. If the new 2026 truck is already better, why not spend more on fire safety instead of face painting and tours? Anyway hope everyone stays safe.
