Jennifer Lopez has worn every kind of hat Hollywood can hand you—actress, singer, dancer, producer, clothing designer, perfumer—but nothing lands louder than “mom.” And for years, her twins, Max and Emme, have lived in that blend of fame and family life.
Now the next phase is rolling in. With their kids on the way to college, fans are getting a clearer look at who they’re becoming—especially Emme. In an Instagram post announcing their commitment to study theatre at Sarah Lawrence College, Emme is revealed to now go by the name “Oskar.”
Max and Emme were born on February 22, 2008, in Long Island, New York. Their arrival was long-awaited and closely watched. Jennifer married Marc Anthony in 2004, just months after her first split from Ben Affleck in June 2004. They would divorce in 2014.
Jennifer’s pregnancy announcement came on November 8, 2007, after weeks of speculation. She broke the news while on the joint El Cantante Tour with Marc in Miami. saying. “Marc and I are expecting a baby!” as Marc cradled her bump. She added, “We are happy…This is a special time in our lives. And we waited until the last show to tell you.”.
Just before the twins were born. Jennifer’s dad David Lopez confirmed the surprise—twins—on the Spanish-language show Escéndalo TV. He said. “Yes. twins…The thing is in my family. my sister also had twins. so it’s a hereditary thing.” He also shared. “I’m very proud. Jennifer has yearned to be a mother for many years.”.
The world got its first glimpse just four weeks later. Max and Emme were featured on a March 2008 cover of PEOPLE magazine in a worldwide exclusive.
Years afterward. Jennifer described learning she was having twins in a YouTube video dubbed Twin Talk with Max and Emme. then 11-year-old children. She said she was in Portugal when she realized she was pregnant. after doing a big show and stepping away for two days. “In my belly, I felt a flutter. I felt like a little butterfly in stomach, and immediately I knew I had life inside of me. I knew it. It came right into my head.”.
At the doctor’s office, she said, she was told the news in a way she couldn’t forget. “The doctor says, you see that right there, that little grain of rice?. That’s the baby. You see this other little grain of rice over here?. That’s the other baby,” she explained. “I was like ‘What.’ I started laughing hysterically. I just laughed out loud, I couldn’t believe it. And that’s how I found out I was having twins.”.
Over the years. Max and Emme—whom Jennifer calls “the coconuts” on her journey through celebrity life—have been photographed often with their mom and her romantic partners. including ex-boyfriend Casper Smart. whom she dated from 2011 to 2016; ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez. who she was with from 2017–2021; and rekindled beau Ben Affleck. whom she reunited with in 2021.
Their friendships expanded too. Max and Emme were often pictured alongside Alex’s daughters, Natasha (16) and Ella (13). After Bennifer’s return to the spotlight and the shifting family schedules. they’ve also spent time with Ben’s kids—Violet (16). Seraphina (13). and Samuel (9)—who he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner (49). That family rhythm has also influenced where the twins spend more of their time. Ahead of the 2021–2022 school year. Jennifer was spotted checking out various exclusive private schools around Los Angeles. seemingly to enroll the twins closer to her home in Bel-Air and closer to Ben. who lives in Brentwood. Marc calls home in Miami. and Alex also maintained a residence there; Jennifer also owns a $32 million Star Island home in the southern Florida city.
Before the college announcements, Max and Emme were already well-versed in red carpet life. Their red carpet debut came at seven years old, when they attended the 2014 premiere of Jennifer’s animated flick Home.
Emme’s standout moments pushed her even further into the spotlight. Jennifer has referred to Emme using “they/them” pronouns. And Emme’s biggest stage moment arrived in 2020, when Emme stepped into the spotlight during the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show, co-headlined by Jennifer and Shakira.
Emme sang alongside Jennifer when the performance turned into a blend of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born In The USA” (remixed with Jennifer’s Latina anthem “Lets Get Loud”). Emme delivered a few lines—“If you wanna live your life/Live it all the way and don’t you waste it”—while positioned in a cage. with other children on stage.

The performance was political. described as a statement in response to former President Donald Trump’s immigration policy that separated families at the U.S./Mexico border. After the performance. Jennifer said. “All I want my girls. the little girls on stage with me and all over the world to know is how to use their voices and be proud of everything they are. ” then added. “Other people can try to build walls. keep us out or put us in cages. We are proud to recognize that all of us together are what makes this beautiful country truly great.”.
As Emme’s public moments grew, so did a distinct personal style. In 2021, Emme embraced a unique look—rocking a shorter cut and natural curls. Earlier in the spring. they dyed their hair blue. debuting it at a Nobu Malibu dinner for aunt Lynda Lopez’s birthday in the early days of Ben and Jennifer’s rekindled relationship.
