Jennifer Lopez’s Netflix lead fuels dating speculation with co-star

Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein are selling “Office Romance” on Netflix, and their on-screen chemistry is now feeding real-life dating speculation. A People-reported source says Lopez’s flirty energy with Goldstein is genuine, while Lopez has publicly leane

The press run for Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix romantic comedy is doing what she’s always done best: turning buzz into a box-office pitch.

“Office Romance. ” set to premiere next Friday. June 5. pairs Lopez with Brett Goldstein—an actor known to many for playing Roy Kent on Apple TV’s “Ted Lasso”—and fans watching their interviews say the chemistry doesn’t look entirely rehearsed. People reports that a source described Lopez’s flirty energy with Goldstein as genuine.

“He really likes him,” the unnamed source told People, adding that Lopez “is in a great place on her own right now” and “doesn’t need a relationship to feel happy.”

That belief—about Lopez moving forward on her own—has also been echoed by what Lopez has said publicly in recent months. On Jimmy Kimmel last week, Lopez explained that Goldstein wrote the script with her specifically in mind.

“He wrote this script for me,” she told Kimmel. “He was a fan, I guess, before, and I was a fan of his from ‘Ted Lasso,’ which people knew I was a fan of ‘Ted Lasso.’”

Lopez also described how Goldstein approached the deal like someone certain she was the right fit. “He also sent a note that said, ‘You’re at the top of our list. It’s a list of one. If you don’t do the money, we’re not making it.’”

The current speculation intensified after an old clip of Goldstein surfaced during the “Office Romance” promotion. In the resurfaced interview segment, Goldstein—then reflecting on Lopez’s public life—commented on Lopez’s July 2022 marriage to Ben Affleck.

“I believed that, one day, I would marry J.Lo, and after last night, I was like, ‘Maybe all hope is dead,’” Goldstein said in the clip. “So, I don’t know anymore. Love is love, but sometimes, they marry Ben Affleck.”

Lopez and Affleck later filed for divorce in August 2024. And Lopez’s own relationship status has remained a prominent part of the conversation. On Kimmel, Lopez confirmed she is single and said she plans to remain that way for the foreseeable future, adding, “I should have done it sooner!”

In the middle of that, Goldstein’s playful past comment and Lopez’s present-day confidence have created a familiar kind of celebrity momentum: viewers see the on-screen spark, they remember the off-screen remarks, and the questions follow.

For now, Lopez is asking audiences to focus on the story—because “Office Romance” is exactly that, a romance delivered in a rom-com package, written for her and built around the energy she brings to the genre. The trailer is already out, and the curtain goes up June 5 on Netflix.
