Duolingo lets users revive lost streaks June 1-30

The little streak sitting at the top of a Duolingo home screen isn’t just a number to a lot of learners—it’s momentum. So when a missed day wipes it out, it can feel personal.

Starting Monday. June 1. Duolingo users who previously held a streak of 30 days or more may be able to get that streak back. To do it, they’ll need to complete three lessons in a single setting, according to a news release. The app’s earlier rule was stricter: if a user skipped a lesson day. the streak was lost and started over on day one.

The change arrives in time for Duolingo’s 15th anniversary. Across more than 80 countries, streak recovery has been the highest feature request from Duolingo users, the company said. Chief Product Officer Cem Kansu called offering the option “perfect” for the milestone.

Not every streak is the same kind of heartbreak, either. An unofficial Duolingo Streak Hall of Fame from Duome.eu puts the longest current streak at 4. 890 days—more than 13 years—by a user in Bethlehem. Duolingo launched in 2011, meaning that user has participated every day for nearly the platform’s entire existence.

Eligible users will see an option to revive a previously held streak in the Duolingo mobile app, the release said. The window for recovery runs between June 1 and June 30.

The update also lands with other new features on June 1. Duolingo is expanding Expanded Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) content in nine languages. It is rolling out new free experiences. including Speaking Adventures that present real-life scenarios. vocabulary flashcards. Explain my Answer to help users better understand mistakes. and a practice hub to repeat past lessons.

Duolingo is also introducing a Duolingo Score that shows progress through standards-aligned curriculum, along with chess and math courses.

Taken together. the June 1 release reads like a direct response to what learners have been asking for—less punishment for an accidental miss. more reasons to keep going. For anyone who’s stared at a streak counter that suddenly reset. the timing is likely to hit harder than the software itself: the app is offering a route back during a limited month-long window.

  1. So if I miss one day I don’t have to suffer restarting from day one now? I mean… ok cool. But does it still shame you in the app or is that gone too

  2. My brother told me Duolingo is letting people get their streak back by doing 3 lessons in one sitting, but like where does it say that counts? Like “one setting” could mean anything… also is it only for 30-day streak people or whatever

  3. I swear these streak updates are just to keep people on the app longer. Next they’ll be like revive your whole year if you watch ads. Also the article says 4,890 days?? That’s not even a streak, that’s a whole lifestyle and I’m jealous. I missed one day once and it ruined my mental health, so yeah I’ll probably try June 1-30 just to see.
