When Heather McComb shared wedding photos from Missoula, Montana, it came with a timeline that felt impossible to ignore: four months after James Van Der Beek died at 48.

McComb. an actress best known for roles including “Party of Five” and “Profiler” in the 1990s. married actor Scott Michael Campbell on May 30. She posted about the day on Instagram. writing that her “hearts are full and humbled by all of the love” they were surrounded by during the ceremony and celebrations. Her post included a carousel of photos from the couple’s nuptials.

In her message. McComb thanked her new husband’s family and friends “who traveled from all over the country” for the wedding. “You all made it so special and a truly magical weekend that we will never forget. We are sitting here counting our many blessings. Thank you to everyone who made this so special for us!” she wrote.

Campbell also marked the milestone with his own set of wedding photos. He wrote on his account: “BEYOND BLESSED for the most AMAZING week getting married to the BEAUTIFUL soul who is @heatmccomb.”

The remarriage lands after a difficult stretch for McComb. She was married to James Van Der Beek from 2003 until their divorce in 2010—nearly seven years. Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in 2023 and died from the disease on Feb. 11. At the time of his death, Van Der Beek was married to his second wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek. The couple wed in 2010 and had six children together.

McComb’s relationship with Campbell began in 2023 after knowing each other for more than 15 years, she previously said on Instagram. They got engaged in April 2025.

Long before the wedding date, McComb had been publicly processing her life with Van Der Beek after his death. She posted a tribute on Instagram describing how their friendship “endured through decades” despite their divorce. In the tribute. she wrote that James was “a beautiful soul filled with so much light. love. talent. humor. depth. sensitivity. knowledge and a deep love of God that shined through him.” She added that “He shined so bright yet was so humble and human.”.

McComb also praised Kimberly Van Der Beek. calling her and James “true soulmates” and writing. “How she showed up for him with such grace is so beautiful and something I will forever admire.” In her final lines. she wrote: “I love you James. I know you had a lot of loved ones up there welcoming you home. God bless you. Till we meet again you sweet soul you.”.

Campbell’s acting career also stretches back for decades. His on-screen credits include appearances in “Brokeback Mountain,” “ER” and “Shameless.” In the years since Van Der Beek’s diagnosis, McComb continued acting, appearing on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Rookie.”

  1. Idk… people grieve different but remarried already and the headline is basically screaming it. Also colorectal cancer is horrible, so I’m not sure how anyone can “magical weekend” that soon.

  2. Wait so Van Der Beek died in February and she got married in May? I saw somewhere it was like a year later? Maybe I’m mixing it up. But either way I guess it’s her life… still feels weird to me.

  3. Honestly thought Scott Michael Campbell was married already or something? Social media moves fast. She said hearts full and counting blessings like that’s a normal timeline after stage 3 cancer. Could be she started dating before, who knows. People will judge no matter what.
