Davie police – Police in Davie, Florida said their investigation into an alleged incident involving New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was closed on June 22, then shifted again within hours—according to a later review by a detective.

The change came in the span of a single evening in Davie, Florida—first the message that the Geno Smith investigation was closed, then a second call indicating the case was back under review.

The Town of Davie Police Department told a national outlet in an email sent at 4:56 p.m. ET on June 22 that the “investigation is closed.” Just over 90 minutes later. a different spokesperson said that. after a review conducted “earlier this evening” on June 22. the incident involving New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was now under further investigation by a detective.

Local authorities had previously said they were not looking into the incident any further after a weekend allegation resurfaced online. Over the weekend, a woman posted a video on Instagram alleging Smith assaulted her.

Davie Police said officers “responded to the Smith residence” on Sunday, June 21, but did not make an arrest. The department also said it was still reviewing the report at that time and that it was not available for release as of June 22—despite the department telling the outlet in the earlier email that the investigation was closed.

The woman’s video was 85 seconds long and used point-of-view shots of the confrontation. In the footage, Smith was heard telling the woman to “stay away from my family” while he talked on the phone before retreating into his house.

After that, the woman ran toward the street holding her phone up and screaming for help. Smith later returned to his driveway and told her to “leave my neighborhood.” The altercation continued when the woman approached the 35-year-old after he entered one of the cars parked in his driveway.

The video ended with a brief shot of Smith speaking to three police officers and a caption reading, “Charges, PRESSED!” No one was taken into custody during the response described in the footage, and authorities did not say they made any arrest at the residence on June 21.

The video spread rapidly across social media, drawing millions of views across multiple platforms.

Neither the New York Jets nor Geno Smith have addressed the incident.
