Coleman exit pushes Hallgrímsson to back Premier League future

Seamus Coleman can still play at the top level in England. That’s the verdict of Heimir Hallgrímsson , who is looking forward to continuing to work with the veteran defender now that Coleman has made a decision to leave Everton . Coleman, who turns 38 in October, will look for a new club during the summer so that he can prolong his international career. The 79-time capped star has turned down the offer of a coaching role at the Toffees, to the delight of Hallgrímsson.

He said: “We rate him highly. He is a big part of our plans going forward. He wants to play for Ireland. “Hopefully that is one of the key factors that he wants to continue playing, now he has decided not to be with Everton. “He probably isn’t feeling that he can get many minutes next season. “Anyone who would sign Seamus Coleman would have a fantastic player in all areas, like a leader, a motivator, a battery and a good player as well. “I

am just looking forward to seeing where he ends up.” All eyes will now be on Coleman’s next move, and Hallgrímsson believes he still has plenty to offer to a Premier League club. “I think he is thinking about playing on a regular basis. I am not sure. He definitely can play in the Premier League,” he said. “If he can play against the best teams on an international level, he can play in the Premier League. “I am not sure where he is, you

should ask him, not me. We will try to have him available for you when we come together.” Click here to sign up to our sport newsletter, bringing you the top stories and biggest headlines from Ireland and beyond .
