Ciara Miller, Tefi, Marsai Martin Face ‘Love Island’ Backlash

After “Love Island USA” fans slammed Ciara Miller and Tefi Pessoa on “Aftersun,” and Marsai Martin faced her own backlash on Instagram, all three pushed back hard over comments tied to Aniya Harvey and KC’s Casa Amor choices.
For weeks, “Love Island USA” viewers have been locked in on Aniya Harvey and Kuman Chandler—KC—after they were coupled from the first episode. Their connection looked steady at first, until Casa Amor brought chaos into the mix.
During Casa Amor, both Aniya and KC chose to explore other connections. In the end, Aniya ended her Casa Amor connection with Karl and chose to remain loyal to KC. But when KC returned to the villa with Tierra, the shift landed hard. Aniya was left emotional, single, and vulnerable—sparking mixed reactions online.
It wasn’t just the episode that fueled the fire. Their celebrity takes turned into a fresh round of online debate, and many viewers accused the hosts of getting the dynamic wrong.
Ciara Miller and Tefi Pessoa—now the new hosts of “Love Island USA Aftersun. ” recapping the latest episodes every Saturday—addressed the criticism after their comments about Aniya and KC. During the latest episode. they discussed how KC seemed open about wanting to explore other connections during Casa Amor. while Aniya often struggled with those conversations.
The hosts also agreed that, at times, KC reassured Aniya more than she reassured him. Still, they said they were disappointed Aniya didn’t fully explore her connection with Karl. Their take quickly ignited backlash from viewers who felt Ciara and Tefi were being biased toward Aniya.
One viewer wrote, “Ciara’s take on Aniya is interesting coming from the same girl on Summer House whose drama always seemed to involve a man telling her one thing while telling someone else another, not being truthful about his intentions, and lowkey holding a grudge against her.”
Ciara responded fast, writing, “You think I don’t understand Aniya’s predicament?!?!?. Be so fu****g for real. We film for 6 hours. There’s a lot of perspectives that get left on the cutting room floor. Spare me.” She followed with another reply: “You guys need to fu****ng relax. We film for 6 hours. Perspectives get left on the cutting room floor. I could psychoanalyze all of LI for hours and write a dissertation on Black people/colorism on reality TV. Don’t talk to me about how I ‘fail’ to see any person of color’s perspective or how I need more ‘empathy.’ I’ve quite literally lived it.”.
Tefi also fired back at the criticism. She wrote. “I’m not an executive producer on the show & while me and C can suggest ideas. we do not have access to footage or voting or anything like that. We filmed this last episode from 3:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Every episode we are called too biased and then too unbiased. that we support the women too much and then we are too hard on them. Then we are inundated with being male centered and then man haters. We cannot please everyone because we are human. Thank you for watching!”.
Marsai Martin wasn’t immune to the backlash either.
Although Marsai didn’t say much directly about the situation, she still found herself dealing with online backlash. On Saturday, she took to her Instagram Story and wrote, “@loveislandusa y’all got me defending MEN. I’m annoyed.” Viewers quickly tried to figure out which islander she was referring to after finding a TikTok she reposted. and many flooded her comments accusing her of defending KC. Others called her “a bird” and criticized her for sharing her opinion.
Marsai responded by sharing a clip of Michael Jackson lowering someone’s gun, captioning it, “Me having an unpopular opinion.” She also added, “Y’all too serious for me. I thought we was all just watching TV
The argument spilled well beyond the host panel, too. Fans gathered attention in the social media conversation, with opinions splitting between those who believed the three didn’t hold KC accountable—and those who felt people were taking the show’s commentary too far.
One Instagram user, @freekdagemini, wrote, “Now y’all sending death threats to the host because they don’t agree with y’all this s**t is getting out of control”
Another, @ohwowyoumad, added, “The fans are sick this year yall have lost yall minds attacking people”
Instagram user @thelibbyjackson wrote, “She said respectfully, f yall 😂”
Still, some commenters aimed their criticism at Aniya’s supporters, including @xxyymm__, who wrote, “Girl bye. You were played by wes multiple times and we gave you grace but not an ounce of grace for Aniya”
@jadenworsttt said, “they received backlash for only coming at the female when the male was clearly in the wrong that’s the problem with this generation now”
@kanteywest wrote, “okay well let’s just say that particular take from them was extremely trash”
Instagram user @alchemist_amineh posted, “The fanbases are absolutely ridiculous! They are bullying people for having any opinion that’s opposite of theirs. It’s very toxic and it’s getting worse every season.”
@janayfasho wrote, “i completely agree with her yall be so biased and follow the leader no wonder it struck some nerves”
And @taeluxe.aesthetics pushed back on the intensity, writing, “Yall have parasocial relationships go touch some damn grass!!”
Finally, @itsjust.liaa wrote, “Y’all gotta chill on marsai fr. That’s our girl. It’s just a different opinion. Y’all gotta respect people’s takes and just agree to disagree.”
Ciara Miller Tefi Pessoa Marsai Martin Love Island USA Aftersun Aniya Harvey KC Kuman Chandler Casa Amor Tierra Karl social media backlash Instagram Story
Wait so are they mad at KC now?? I’m confused.
I didn’t even realize there was backlash until I saw people roasting them. Sounds like the hosts said KC was reassuring Aniya more, but that feels like an edit thing?? Like the show makes everyone look bad anyway.
Ciara and Tefi acting like Aniya should’ve stayed with Karl more? I mean, Casa Amor literally messes with everybody’s head. Also why are they even talking about Aniya being “vulnerable” like that’s fact. From what I saw KC was the one who chose to leave her hanging, so idk.
This whole thing is wild. People are out here saying the hosts were biased but then half of the comments I read are about some Summer House crossover like that’s the same situation. Feels like everyone’s just picking a team and then blaming the hosts for not being on their side. If KC wanted to explore then yeah it’s on him, but also Aniya should’ve played it smarter? Idk, I’m just tired of Casa Amor being chaos every season.
