Kate Gosselin Won’t Sue Collin for Defamation

Kate Gosselin says she won’t sue her son Collin for defamation because, as a public figure, “rules are different.” When asked about a lie detector test, she answered with a single laugh—then added that proving “malice” is one of the hardest parts.

Kate Gosselin has a clear answer for the people urging her to fight back.

After Collin Gosselin gave interviews and renewed allegations about his childhood—claims that include being restrained with zipties and locked in a basement—fans turned to Kate’s social media comments, pressing her on what would happen next.

In a post response that quickly pulled in attention. one user told Kate. “If you are 100% certain that the accusations against you are lies. my suggestion would be to take him to court and sue him for defamation!” Kate’s reply was blunt: “I can’t bc I’m a public figure. Rules are different unfortunately. Or I def would!”.

Another follower asked whether she would submit to a lie detector test. Kate’s one-word response was just a laugh: “Ha!”

Later in the comment thread, she addressed the legal reality of trying to clear her name. “Malice is one of the hardest things to prove. I tried :(,” she wrote. She followed that up by saying she consulted a lawyer in Los Angeles years ago when other people were “putting crazy stuff out there. ” adding that “that’s what he said.” In her view. “The courts don’t honor it if you’re in the public eye :(”.

The push for legal action comes after new spotlight around Collin’s claims and his writing. Collin recently became associated with a memoir. “In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.” He has also spoken publicly about his estrangement from Kate. and in 2023 he gave a “bombshell interview” that touched on his split from her. including allegations that Kate put him in an institution before she lost custody. along with questions about whether he would ever reconcile.

The exchange leaves fans with the same uneasy question: whether Kate’s courtroom decision is a matter of strategy—or simply the gap between what she says is untrue and what a public-figure legal standard requires.

  1. I saw the word malice and I’m like… ok but if it’s true it’s true. Also the “Ha!” at the lie detector test like girl cmon 😂

  2. Wait so she consulted a lawyer years ago and that’s what he said? That sounds like the opposite of “I’m certain he’s lying.” If the courts don’t honor it for public figures, then why even talk about it at all? I’m confused.
