ChatGPT for Android tests “Find in chat” and Library tweaks

A recent test build of the ChatGPT Android app (v1.2026.146) shows work underway on a “Find in chat” option, new ways to organize the Library, updates to the chat interface, and new attachment workflows for images.
Scrolling through a long ChatGPT conversation on a phone can feel like hunting for a needle in a haystack—especially when you only remember one line. In a recent Android test build, the app team appears to be trying to make that search easier.
While tinkering with the ChatGPT Android app version 1.2026.146, new features were manually enabled from work-in-progress code.
The most immediately noticeable change is a new “Find in chat” option tucked inside the three-dot menu. Once enabled, you can tap it, type text, and the app will search within the chat to find matching content. For people who run long threads with the AI and then need to locate a specific detail. that difference matters—no more endless scrolling just to retrace one moment.
Text search on chat threads has long existed on the web via the Ctrl + F shortcut, but a dedicated mobile feature like this targets the gap smartphones create.
The Android app is also under the hood with Library-focused changes. New organization options are being worked on for the Library, alongside interface cleanup for the chat experience. One of the changes spotted includes possible new ways to attach images from the Library.
There’s additional evidence of broader UI reorganization. The plus icon currently presents a long scrollable list of options including Deep Research, Thinking, Web Search, and Create Image. In the build being tested. the plus icon may become more structured. with a new “Plugins” option visible that includes features like Deep Research and Thinking.
Other enabled changes include new List and Grid options. the ability to select multiple files in the Library. and an option to add files from the ChatGPT Library to other chats using the “@” symbol. The “@” workflow is positioned as a faster path—rather than going into the Library. finding an image. and attaching it manually.
Exactly when these features will roll out to everyone is unclear. They appear to be in progress, and features spotted through an APK teardown may not always make it into a public release.
For now, the message is simple: the app is being adjusted to help Android users find things faster, organize their Library more flexibly, and move images into chats with fewer steps.
