For the Knicks’ Eastern Conference Finals opener, Timothée Chalamet stepped into Madison Square Garden without his mustache—and with sides and the back of his head noticeably trimmed.
He paired the sharper cut with camouflage-print joggers and a gray Knicks T-shirt layered with a black thermal. Chalamet finished the look with a black belt, Timberland boots and a silver necklace as he headed to watch the New York Knicks take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, May 19.
The timing wasn’t just about style. The first game of the Eastern Conference finals ended 115–104 in overtime, giving the Knicks the win. After clinching the second largest comeback in the fourth quarter of a playoffs game since 1997, the team moved to three games away from the NBA finals.
Courtside that night, other well-known faces included talk show host Jimmy Fallon and actor Dustin Hoffman, underscoring how far the Knicks’ postseason run has stretched beyond basketball itself.
Chalamet’s fashion moment is only the latest chapter in his long-running Knicks presence. He has consistently attended games, including skipping both the 2025 and 2026 Met Gala to go to matches. His allegiance dates back to early social media posts when he was 14, according to The New York Times.
More recently, Chalamet and girlfriend Kylie Jenner made multiple appearances together at Knicks games: the Knicks vs. Atlanta Hawks playoff game at Madison Square Garden on April 28. and the team’s playoff matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on May 6. Jenner and Chalamet have been together for several years. and they made their red carpet debut as a couple in May 2025. Jenner has also accompanied him for several awards shows and premieres during the press run for “Marty Supreme.”.
The look at Madison Square Garden also fits a pattern of constant changes. This wasn’t the first time Chalamet has gone without facial hair: he previously rocked a shaved face two years ago. and the last time he was clean-shaven was in 2024 while filming the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown.” For the New York premiere of the biopic. he briefly went blonde. referencing Bob Dylan’s hairstyle from the 2003 Sundance Film Festival.
A new transformation is already in motion elsewhere as well. The first trailer for “Dune: Part 3” shows Chalamet with a completely shaved head. even though other clips in the trailer depict him with his signature curls. “Dune: Part 3,” starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson alongside Chalamet, is set to hit theaters Dec. 18.
Chalamet’s mustache-free night at the Knicks game may start conversations about his latest style—but it ended with a result that matters far more for the people in the stands. With the Cavaliers topped 115–104 in overtime. the Knicks put themselves within reach. moving one victory at a time toward the NBA finals.
