Caitlin Clark steadies Fever as Sun struggle returns

Indiana Fever head to Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, June 13 after winning on Monday and Thursday, building a first winning streak since May 17-22. Caitlin Clark is trying to keep the momentum — and the urgency — as the Fever face a Connecticut Sun team sittin
For the first time in a while, the Indiana Fever look like a team that can string victories together. The question heading into Saturday night is whether that calm can survive the next opponent — especially with Caitlin Clark out front.
Indiana enters its matchup with the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, June 13 at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT) at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Connecticut after beating the Washington Mystics on Monday and then the Chicago Sky on Thursday. The Fever are on their first winning streak since posting three straight wins from May 17-22.
They needed it to be a last-second kind of win on Monday: Indiana (7-5) hit a last-second 3 to beat the Washington Mystics before following that up by beating the Chicago Sky in overtime on Thursday. In both games, the Fever held double-digit leads and ultimately held off the competition.
“It’s been a little bit of dip in intensity. a little bit of dip in execution. ” Fever coach Stephanie White said. “It’s just urgency. maintaining a sense of urgency in what we do. understanding that we have to value every possession all the time. offensively and defensively. We can’t relax. Every team in this league is hungry, and we have to be the hungrier team.”.
That message lands in the middle of a moment that has shifted the Fever’s mood. With Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, Indiana also made history on Thursday: the pair became the first teammates in WNBA history to record 30-point double-doubles in the same game against the Sky.
Connecticut arrives at 2-12 with a defense that has been getting hammered. The Sun give up 89.4 points and have been outscored by 11.3 points per game.
The contrast between those numbers and what the Fever have been doing is stark — and it’s playing out even as Indiana’s shooting fluctuates. In Monday’s and Thursday’s stretch, the Fever held on after building leads, but they also know the next challenge starts immediately once the ball tips.
In Saturday’s game preview. the picture of form begins to show itself in the early scoring dynamics described for the matchup: at 34 with just over six minutes remaining in the second quarter. Caitlin Clark has 10 points and the game is tied. Indiana has cooled from the field, shooting 52% compared to 56% for the Sun.
The first quarter’s rhythm has been heavy on scoring. The Fever shot 73% from the field and went 5-of-6 from behind the arc. with Clark leading all scorers with eight points. Monique Billings had six. The Sun shot 62% from the field and were 1-of-2 from three. Olivia Nelson-Ododa added six points off the bench. Saniya Rivers ended the quarter with a slashing layup to pull Connecticut within one.
Indiana’s shooting from distance has been a central feature, including two 3s from Caitlin Clark and one from Kelsey Mitchell. Clark also had Indiana’s first two baskets, including a 3-pointer.
The tension in the early game is simple: the Fever’s burst from long range has translated into a narrow advantage. They led 14-13, while the Sun led 9-5 with eight minutes to go in the first quarter. Aaliyah Edwards had four points for Connecticut during that stretch.
One of the most human images from the Fever’s day in Uncasville didn’t come from the stat sheet. As Caitlin Clark signed autographs, she handed out friendship bracelets to her littlest fans.
By game time, the spotlight is likely to remain where it has been all season: Clark and the Fever trying to keep both their execution and their intensity from slipping — even as the Sun’s record suggests they may not be able to keep up.
The starters and roster depth for Saturday are set. Indiana’s starting lineup includes Monique Billings (25). Aliyah Boston (7). Caitlin Clark (23). Sophie Cunningham (22). and Damiris Dantas (12). with additional players on the Fever roster including Bree Hall (2). Tyasha Harris (52). Myisha Hines-Allen (10). Lexie Hull (3). Raven Johnson (0). Kelsey Mitchell (13). Justine Pissott (21). Makayla Timpson (14). Grace VanSlooten (4). and others.
Connecticut’s starting lineup features Nell Angloma (33). Raegan Beers (15). Kennedy Burke (25). Brittney Griner (42). and Ashlon Jackson (3). with Olivia Nelson-Ododa (10) and Saniya Rivers (2) among the key names on the Sun roster. The Sun are coached by Rachid Meziane, while Stephanie White leads Indiana.
For a team built on momentum, Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena is less about whether the Fever can win — it’s about how they respond when the game tightens, when shots cool, and when urgency has to stay real.

So Mohegan Sun again lol hopefully they win.
Clark “steadies” them but like is she really out front if the coach is talking about urgency? Feels like both things at once. Also I didn’t realize they went on a streak since May, that’s wild.
Wait, are they saying Clark is out of the game? “out front” made me think she’s injured or something. If she’s not even playing then how are they building momentum? Headlines confuse me sometimes.
I just don’t get how they had double-digit leads in both games and still needed last-second stuff?? Like either the other team collapsed or Indiana can’t finish. Mohegan Sun is gonna be packed though, Connecticut always seems like they show up out of nowhere.
