Scotland fan finishes 3,000-mile walk to Boston

3,000-mile walk – Craig Ferguson completed a 3,000-mile trek from Los Angeles to Boston ahead of Scotland’s World Cup opener against Haiti, raising more than $1 million for men’s mental health awareness in Scotland.

Craig Ferguson crossed the finish line in Boston Common on Friday afternoon, completing a 3,000-mile walk from Los Angeles with just enough time to settle into his seat for Scotland’s World Cup opener.

He started the trek in February, moving city to city with one purpose: to raise money for men’s mental health. By the time he arrived in Boston, his fundraising had climbed to over $1 million for men’s mental health awareness in Scotland.

The journey was built on grief and resolve. Ferguson said the decision came after his friend tragically lost his father to suicide. an experience he described as a turning point. “Losing your dad. there’s probably not a more important figure in a man’s life that you could lose. ” Ferguson told The Boston Globe’s Amin Touri earlier in the month.

After finishing the hike, Ferguson was visibly overcome by what it had taken to keep going. He described weeks of struggle—hard parts that came with moments where he felt he couldn’t continue.

“There’s been so many [hard parts], there’s been so, so many times I didn’t think I could do it, times I was close to giving up,” he said. “But they don’t teach the words ‘giving up’ in Scotland, so that’s a good thing. We made it.”

Ferguson also made clear there would be no second stretch of the journey beyond Boston. He has no interest in continuing the walk the rest of the way to Foxborough, saying he’ll be using a taxi instead.

Kickoff for Scotland’s match against Haiti is set for 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday.
