Barkley rips Spurs after 29-point lead collapse

Spurs blew – NBA commentator Charles Barkley called the San Antonio Spurs “the dumbest basketball team in the history of civilization” after they blew a 29-point lead in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 10, helping the New York Knicks take a 3-1 series advantage.

Charles Barkley didn’t dress it up.

After the San Antonio Spurs squandered a 29-point lead in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday. June 10. the NBA commentator on “Inside the NBA” delivered a blunt verdict that landed like a punchline and a warning. Barkley called the Spurs “dumbest basketball team in the history of civilization. ” saying. “That was some of the most mismanaged. stupid basketball.”.

He pointed to what happened late and why it mattered for the Knicks. “When you blow a 29-point lead, the other team has to help you. The San Antonio Spurs helped the New York Knicks win this game by doing some of the stupid(est) stuff I’ve seen on a basketball court. ” Barkley said during the postgame show.

The series shift was immediate and visible. The Spurs had a chance to even it at 2-2, but the Knicks took control late and now hold a 3-1 lead.

San Antonio looked untouchable early. In the first half, the Spurs set an NBA Finals record with 14 made 3s on 26 attempts. Then the second half arrived with a different rhythm—and a different result. San Antonio went 3-for-17 from deep in the second half.

Those misses weren’t just statistics. In the third quarter alone. the Spurs missed nine 3-pointers. giving the Knicks the openings they needed to climb back into the game. At halftime, the Knicks returned to the locker room trailing 76-49. They flipped the script in the second half, outscoring the Spurs 58-30.

Shaquille O’Neal didn’t soften it either. On the show, he said, “They played terrible basketball. They got comfortable with the lead and talking about going back to San Antonio and just didn’t play smart.”

The Knicks’ momentum now comes with momentum of its own: OG Anunoby’s game-winning shot in Game 4 put New York up 3-1, and the win came after San Antonio’s collapse that turned a commanding lead into a nearly irreversible setback.

  1. Barkley always talks crazy but I mean… if they really went from 76-49 to losing then yeah that’s on them. Also the article says Knicks got 58-30?? Wild. Spurs just forgot how to shoot in the 2nd half I guess.

  2. Wait so did Barkley get mad because they were down 29 at halftime or because they had a 29 lead? I’m confused, but either way “dumbest team” feels like one of those things people say and then pretend it’s analysis. OG Anunoby hit a game winner so I’m assuming Spurs choked like usual, idk.

  3. The part about talking about going back to San Antonio is funny bc like… of course you’re comfortable when you’re up 29. But if they were “comfortable” then why did they still let the Knicks come back so hard? Sounds like coaching problems or refs or something. Also Barkley calling them dumb is harsh, but honestly I’m not mad.
