Apple teases tvOS 27 Larger Text for Apple TV 4K

For anyone who’s ever squinted at tiny Apple TV menus from the couch, Apple’s latest preview lands like a small relief.
Apple has shown off a new accessibility feature called Larger Text. designed to make on-screen text much easier to read on Apple TV. Larger Text is meant to be especially helpful for users with low vision. or for anyone who sits farther from the screen. The feature comes with multiple text size options, and Apple has demonstrated how the change looks across the interface.
Apple TV’s default text size is fairly small, and the difference with Larger Text is described as “quite dramatic” in the comparison shown alongside the preview. After the adjustment, menus and on-screen information become significantly easier to read.
There’s an important catch: Larger Text only works with apps that support Apple’s Dynamic Type text framework. That means the feature will work throughout the tvOS interface and in Apple’s own apps—such as Apple TV—but not necessarily in every third-party streaming app.
For example, Netflix and Prime Video use their own proprietary text technology, and Larger Text is therefore unlikely to affect how text appears inside those apps.
Apple hasn’t provided a specific release date yet. The company has only said Larger Text is “coming to tvOS,” with tvOS 27 expected to be unveiled at WWDC26. WWDC itself doesn’t kick off until June 8. but Apple has already been previewing parts of what it’s working on. including accessibility updates.
If tvOS 27 follows Apple’s usual rollout pattern, the update is widely expected to reach Apple TV devices this fall.
The timing also matters for another reason: Apple’s attention on Apple TV isn’t limited to software. Rumors have been building around a possible new Apple TV 4K, with the current third-generation Apple TV 4K released in 2022. One of the recurring expectations is that any successor would come with an upgraded chipset—possibly the A17 Pro.
Recently, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has a new Apple TV set-top box “nearly ready to go,” with Siri identified as the main holdup. Gurman also said Apple wants to launch the next Apple TV 4K alongside its revamped Siri experience and new Apple Intelligence features.
That lines up with expectations for Apple to roll out its upgraded Siri as part of iOS 27 this fall. If that plays out, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a new Apple TV 4K arrive around the same time or shortly afterward, potentially in late September or October.
For now, Larger Text is the concrete, user-facing change Apple has already put in front of the public. And for viewers who tend to sit back—where small interface text stops feeling “minor” and starts feeling like friction—it’s the kind of update that can make the living room experience more comfortable right away.
