Android 17 stable update wipes Pixel widgets for some

After updating to Android 17, some Google Pixel owners say their homescreen widgets disappear and never show up in the widget picker again. Google has confirmed the issue is tied to Work Profile usage and says a fix will roll out in a future update “soon.”

For some Google Pixel owners, the frustration didn’t start with a wonky app or a notification that wouldn’t quit. It started the moment the homescreen looked wrong.

After upgrading to Android 17. widgets that used to sit on the Pixel homescreen have reportedly vanished—and in many cases. they don’t even appear as options in the widget picker anymore. The problem isn’t limited to a single widget type. Users say it affects widgets that were already on the homescreen before the update.

The first complaints surfaced through the Android 17 Beta program. with reports dating back to February that widgets could be removed and then wouldn’t be available to put back. What made the situation harder to ignore is that there still wasn’t a clear fix at the time. even as the issue kept showing up.

Then it arrived in the stable release.

Pixel owners say the widgets disappeared after updating to the stable Android 17 update that dropped earlier this week. Once the update landed, the widget picker didn’t show those missing widgets. In practice, that meant the homescreen wasn’t just rearranged—it lost functionality people had relied on.

The most consistent thread running through user reports is the Work Profile. A number of affected users say disabling the Work Profile brings the widgets back. But even that doesn’t fully settle the problem for everyone: users also report that adding a new profile can bring the issue back.

Google has now acknowledged the cause.

In an update shared in connection with the Android 17 rollout. Google confirmed that the bug is caused by the Work Profile and that a fix will be delivered in a future software update “soon.” The company’s statement was direct: “We are aware of this bug affecting Work Profile users. and a fix will be rolled out in a software update soon.”.

Until that patch arrives, people are experimenting with workarounds that only partly reduce the damage. Some users mention disabling or archiving affected apps before restoring them. Others say toggling focus mode can temporarily help. Even with those steps. the core complaint remains the same: widgets disappearing after an update—and staying missing—should not require a workaround to fix.

For now, the stable Android 17 release has turned a simple homescreen expectation into a moving target for Work Profile users. Google says it’s working on a proper patch, but for anyone whose widgets vanished this week, “soon” is the only promise they’ve been offered.
