Alexandra Grant Details How Keanu Reeves Supports Her Art

At the launch of her new wine brand in Los Angeles on May 28, Alexandra Grant shared how her relationship with Keanu Reeves works—rooted in mutual respect, careful creative feedback, and giving each other room to “bake their cake.”

On Thursday, May 28, in Los Angeles, Alexandra Grant stepped into the spotlight at the launch event for her new wine brand—and gave a rare glimpse at the relationship behind her work.

The 53-year-old visual artist spoke with People about how her bond with Keanu Reeves. 61. is built on shared respect for creativity. not constant input. She described a dynamic where both of them understand how the other person prefers to move through the process—steady. attentive. and careful with feedback.

“He’s always so appreciative, so he’s always cautious, I think, with feedback, and I would say the same,” Grant said, explaining their approach when it comes to suggestions and critique.

Grant said she tries to keep that same sensitivity when Reeves is involved in her world. “You want to always be respectful and leave the other person to bake their cake. Just talking about my love makes me sweat,” she added.

She also described the space they give each other—while still being deeply engaged. “I would say that there is all the listening in the world that we know that we could talk about any problem or challenge or creative idea and talk about it forever if that is needed. and also respect the individual need to dive deep and have a process that’s maybe quiet or in another collaboration.”.

Their connection goes back to when they first worked together on the book Ode to Happiness. From there, Grant and Reeves co-founded a publishing house, and eventually took their relationship public.

When Grant talked about what keeps things steady, she returned to the idea of play and belief in projects. “So I’d say the key to it is the mutual respect and also just like. come on. it’s play. right?. It’s play that we get to play creatively,” she said. “The last thing I will say that I think we share is just the belief in projects. Every project has its own autonomy. its own team. it has its own sort of rules. and it has a beginning. middle and end. So we both are people who do projects. and you know. I’ve lived with John Wick. I’ve lived with Neo.”.

John Wick is the title character in Keanu‘s blockbuster action franchise, while Neo is the iconic role he portrayed in The Matrix movies.

Grant said she understands what it means to fully inhabit a role—and that she brings the same intensity to painting. “When he’s in a character. for example. I have so much respect for that understanding that this is the middle to the end of a project. right?. And I think the same goes for painting,” she continued. “When I’m in painter mode, I am in it. I’m fully in it. and it’s not playing a character. but it is performing. you know. painting really is a form of performance too.”.

That support shows up publicly as well. Grant frequently attends Keanu Reeves’ red carpet events and premieres. Earlier this year, she attended the premiere of Outcome, and the couple shared a sweet kiss at the Good Fortune premiere last October.

The through-line in her remarks was clear: love for her, yes—but also love as a practice of restraint, listening, and letting each other create on their own terms.

  1. People really will make an article about anything. But ngl “bake their cake” is kinda cute. I guess that means they don’t critique too much? Sounds healthy though.

  2. Wait she has a wine brand? Thought Keanu just did movies and charity stuff. This makes it sound like he’s basically her PR guy or something… unless the “publishing house” is what pays for the wine? Not sure I’m tracking.

  3. “Room to bake their cake” sounds like how relationships are supposed to work, but also isn’t that just PR wording? Like, I’m sure they have feedback, people always do. Also why is her love “making her sweat”?? Is that like anxiety or just the wine event nerves. Anyway Keanu seems respectful so I’m happy for them.
