Alcaraz withdraws from Wimbledon, extending injury absence

Alcaraz withdraws – Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending French Open champion, says his recovery from a right wrist injury is going well but he is still not ready to play Wimbledon—or the Queen’s and grass-court swing. His absence reshapes the 2026 major season and puts renewed
Carlos Alcaraz didn’t wait until the grass-court season was underway to deliver the kind of news that unsettles a full draw. On social media, the 23-year-old announced he will withdraw from Wimbledon, saying he feels better after tests but is still not ready to play.
His decision comes after a right wrist injury forced him to make a cautious call months earlier. The two-time defending French Open champion had already said he would skip the Rome and Roland Garros swing while waiting to assess the injury’s evolution and decide when he could return to the court.
In his latest message. Alcaraz described his recovery as “going well” and said he “feel[s] much better.” Still. he drew a line at timing. “Unfortunately I’m still not ready to be able to play. and that’s why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon. ” he wrote. He called both events “two really special tournaments” and said he will “miss them a lot. ” adding: “We keep working to return as soon as possible!”.
The ripple effects are immediate. Alcaraz is a two-time winner of Wimbledon and reached the final for a third straight year in 2025. losing to Jannik Sinner. With the French Open officially underway earlier this week and Alcaraz already out. his Wimbledon absence deepens the sense that the 2026 season may be less of a sprint for him than a careful rebuilding.
There’s also a sharp question hovering behind his withdrawal: could the calendar still offer him a realistic path to another run at the majors?. Alcaraz has won at least two grand slams in each of the last two years. and after starting the year with an Australian Open title. he is set to miss the French Open and Wimbledon. His next chance to win a grand slam, he signaled, could come at the U.S. Open in September—if he is healthy.
For now, the message is simple and repeated: better recovery, not enough readiness. And for a player whose presence can reshape the sport’s biggest stages, the wait until September will be measured in weeks—while the tournaments continue without him.

Wrist injury again? Dude can’t catch a break. Wimbledon gonna be weird without him.
So he feels better but still “not ready” like… what does that even mean? If the tests say it’s fine then just play Wimbledon lol. Grass season is literally the whole point.
He’s skipping Queen’s AND Wimbledon but will probably just show up at the US Open like nothing happened. Happens every year, players always “working on return” then somehow end up fine in September.
The French Open is happening and now he’s out, that’s crazy timing. I swear tennis players get hurt and then the draw gets easier for random people. Also wasn’t Sinner already beating him?? Idk I just feel like this messes up the whole 2026 season.
