Hyatt adds five award tiers—what that changes now

World of Hyatt updated its award charts on May 20, shifting from three tiers to five for many categories. The change means the points needed for the same property can land in different “lowest, low, moderate, upper or top” brackets depending on the night—while
By the time May 20 rolled around, the same Hyatt stay could start costing a different number of points—because World of Hyatt didn’t just tweak award pricing. It rebuilt the way many award nights are categorized.
World of Hyatt still maintains award charts for most of its portfolio, even as it uses dynamic pricing for Mr & Mrs Smith properties. The program also keeps separate award charts for all-inclusive resorts and Miraval resorts.
Then came the update on May 20: the annual category changes and new award charts, now organized into five tiers instead of three. With the new structure, award nights for a specific property can vary depending on whether they fall into lowest, low, moderate, upper or top.
The result is a chart-heavy system that looks straightforward on paper and feels less so when you’re trying to lock in dates.
For standard rooms at Hyatt hotels and resorts—excluding all-inclusive resorts. Miraval resorts and Mr & Mrs Smith properties—the current points chart sets out the lowest points per night. low points per night. moderate points per night. upper points per night and top points per night across hotel categories. The tiered costs run from 3. 000 points per night at the lowest end to 45. 000 points per night at the highest top tier shown. with intermediate tiers stepping up through 4. 500. 6. 000. 7. 500. 9. 000. 12. 000. 15. 000. 17. 500. 20. 000. 22. 500. 25. 000. 30. 000. 35. 000. 40. 000 and 55. 000 points per night depending on the category.
In the same standard-room chart logic, Points + Cash can also appear at some properties. With Points + Cash. travelers pay 50% of the points required based on the chart and receive 50% to 70% off the standard rate for the room type they’re booking. Hyatt says you can book these standard awards. including Points + Cash awards. online—when the rates are available you see them after selecting the “Use Points” box before searching.
Club rooms follow a similar approach, but with their own points numbers. For club rooms at Hyatt hotels and resorts—again excluding all-inclusive resorts. Miraval resorts and Mr & Mrs Smith properties—the lowest points per night shown start at 5. 000. then rise through 6. 500. 8. 000. 9. 500 and up to 85. 000 points per night at the top end of the chart.
Club rooms come with access to the hotel’s club lounge, where complimentary breakfast, snacks, drinks and appetizers are typically offered.
Suites add another layer: the chart distinguishes standard suites and premium suites and still runs through lowest. low. moderate. upper and top tier pricing. The structure shown prices standard suite entries starting at 6,000 (lowest) and premium suites at 8,000, then escalates across categories. The list moves through combinations such as 7. 500 (standard) and 9. 500 (premium). 9. 000 (standard) and 11. 000 (premium). and continues upward through 100. 000 points for premium suite at the top tier shown.
Points + Cash is also available for suites, working the same way as it does for standard rooms: pay 50% of the points required for a “free night” and receive 50% to 70% off the standard rate for the suite type.
Not every points redemption is for a free stay, though. Hyatt points can also be used for room upgrades on paid stays at some hotels and resorts. The upgrade costs listed are 3. 000 points per night for a club upgrade. 6. 000 points per night for a standard suite upgrade. and 9. 000 points per night for a premium suite upgrade. Hyatt notes you can book new stays online. but you must contact Hyatt to upgrade an existing paid stay using points. and you may need to meet minimum room type and rate requirements. The usual pricing assumption in the details provided is that travelers will generally need to pay the standard rate for at least a deluxe room at Hyatt resorts and a standard room at a nonresort hotel.
All-inclusive resorts have their own chart—one that also reflects how many people are included in the nightly redemption. For Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection brands. the award chart breaks out standard rooms. club rooms. standard suites and premium suites across lowest. low. moderate. upper and top tiers. The numbers shown start at 12. 000 points per night for a standard room at the lowest tier. and run up through premium suite costs reaching 120. 000 points per night at the top end in the chart.
Crucially, the all-inclusive award night rate includes two people at all-inclusive resorts. That’s why a second all-inclusive chart is provided for third and fourth guests. It lists points per person for the third or fourth guest across lowest. low. moderate. upper and top levels. with lowest-tier additional-guest pricing starting at 6. 000 points per person and rising as high as 42. 500 points per person depending on the tier.
The pricing detail is specific: because the base award includes two people. the chart implies that a family of four might face higher total points if they book one room for four guests. The article’s practical takeaway is that redeeming Hyatt points for two rooms with two guests each could be preferable.
Miraval resorts are similarly distinct. Four Miraval resorts are open and bookable with Hyatt points: Miraval Arizona. Miraval Austin. Miraval Berkshires in Massachusetts and Miraval The Red Sea in Saudi Arabia. The award chart is the same across Miraval properties. The costs are shown by award type and occupancy: for example. the lowest tier lists 40. 000 points for single occupancy and 60. 000 points for double occupancy. while top-tier pricing shown reaches 115. 000 points for single occupancy and 145. 000 points for double occupancy.
Miraval’s inclusions are spelled out for every award night: meals, snacks, a $175 resort credit per person, nonalcoholic drinks, fitness classes and wellness activities.
There’s also a way to add flexibility for frequent Hyatt customers through the Hyatt Milestone Rewards program. The details say travelers can select a Miraval extra night award at the 100-, 110-, 120-, 130-, 140- and 150-night milestones.
In the end. the update makes the award charts feel less like a single price list and more like a sliding scale. The World of Hyatt award chart can be overwhelming because multiple room types can be booked with points. each costing a different amount—and because redemption now depends on whether nights are categorized as lowest. low. moderate. upper or top. Yet the message left on the page is practical: once you understand which tier you’re really booking. there’s still potential value. even if you prefer sticking to the low end of Hyatt’s award charts.
