For anyone who has been weighing whether to upgrade to Plex Premium “for good,” the decision just got more expensive. Plex has announced that its lifetime Plex Pass will jump from $249.99 to $749.99, with the change scheduled to take effect on July 1.
Plex says the new pricing goes live exactly at 12:01AM UTC on July 1, which corresponds to 8:01PM ET on June 30 (and 5:01PM PT that same day). That makes the timing feel close enough to sting for subscribers who were still deciding.
The lifetime Plex Pass includes features like remote streaming, downloading content, and an option to skip the intro and credits. Plex also continues to offer access to thousands of movies and TV shows, along with the ability to create a personal media streaming server for free.
Plex acknowledged that the tripling of the lifetime price is a major jump. It also said it considered completely eliminating the ability to buy a lifetime plan. Instead. Plex framed the decision as a shift toward the kind of pricing that can support the company’s long-term work. In a blog post. Plex said recurring subscriptions help the company “sustain long-term development. ” and that the new lifetime price “reflects the real. ongoing value of the software we’re committed to building and maintaining for years to come.”.
The company also pointed to what’s coming next for Plex Pass users. Its roadmap includes a feature to automatically download new episodes, a better way to organize a media library in the mobile app, and boosting dialogue audio for content.
This isn’t the first time Plex has adjusted lifetime pricing. It previously more than doubled the lifetime subscription price from $120 to $250 in March 2025.
Plex’s message is clear: the lifetime option remains, but it no longer comes cheap. With the July 1 deadline locked in down to the minute, existing and prospective lifetime buyers now face a stark choice—pay the new number, or gamble on waiting for what comes next.
