Amanda Crawford walked viewers through major stories on WHDH-TV’s 7News for nearly six years. On Friday, she will walk away from the broadcast desk for good.
In a Facebook post announcing her departure. Crawford wrote. “With a heart full of gratitude and many wonderful memories. I am stepping away from TV news and starting a new chapter.” She said the choice was difficult and that she would miss the people and parts of the industry that have shaped her work.
Crawford joined 7News in 2020 as a news anchor. She said in the post that stepping away from the news industry took real thought: “I will miss so many people and things about this industry…deciding to switch careers was not an easy decision.”
Her attachment to television news goes back to childhood. Crawford wrote that being a TV journalist was her dream since she was ten years old. Over the course of a 17-year career. she worked for outlets across the country. including in South Carolina. Florida. Nebraska. and Virginia. In Virginia, she spent a year working on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
In her farewell post. Crawford pointed to the range of moments she covered. from “presidential debates to rocket launches to college football championships. ” saying she’d witnessed “historic. thrilling. and just plain fun stories and events.” She also returned to the weightier side of the job. remembering her coverage on “devastating” topics such as mass shootings. wildfires. hurricanes. and “other tragedies.”.
For Crawford, the end of her run on 7News is tied to that strain. “The news can be intense and heavy, and I’m ready to take a bit of a break from that,” she wrote. She did not share details about what comes next, but said she plans to transition into a field that offers more flexibility.
As she counts down to Friday, her post carried the clearest hint of what she’s most looking forward to. “Im VERY excited to spend Christmas at home and to shut off that 3 a.m. alarm for good,” she wrote.

3 a.m. alarm for good? Honestly I get it. Let her rest.
Wait so she’s just leaving because she got tired of news? I mean mass shootings and hurricanes are kinda part of the job lol. Wonder if the station forced it or something.
I saw this on my feed and thought it said she got fired, not “stepping away.” Like why not just say what’s next? Also 17 years?? She looks way younger than that, so maybe time is fake.
Good for her, but I don’t trust “new chapter” with no details. Usually that means contract drama or ratings stuff. Also Capitol Hill to rocket launches? That seems made up like she did everything everywhere. I’m just gonna miss her though, WHDH feels weird without her.
