Christian Yelich is back where the Milwaukee Brewers want him most: in the lineup, swinging with intent, and making his return feel immediate.

Milwaukee will look to sweep the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. using Yelich’s presence as a key part of the push.. He returned after a groin injury cost him 24 games.. Yelich came back on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres, only to miss the following four games with back soreness.. Now he’s back again, and he didn’t waste much time announcing it.

In Sunday’s report of his impact, Yelich was 0-for-2 against starter Bailey Ober before his fifth-inning at-bat. With Minnesota ahead 3-2, he pulled a hanging changeup deep into right field, sending it over the high Target Field fence for his second homer of the season. His first came on March 29.

The timing matters because Yelich’s path back has been shaped by a familiar theme in recent years: injuries that keep interrupting the rhythm.. In 2024, he played just 73 games before undergoing offseason back surgery to address a long-standing issue.. He bounced back to appear in 150 games in 2025 for the 97-win Brewers.. Even with that earlier postseason absence. he also played in all nine postseason games after missing the 2024 Wild Card Series against the New York Mets.

Injuries have hit the Brewers again this year beyond Yelich’s own setbacks.. Jackson Chourio missed the first six weeks of the season with a hand injury.. Freddy Peralta was also lost to an offseason trade, leaving early-season holes that required adjustments.. With Chourio and Yelich now both back and producing. the Brewers’ offense has quickly become the swing factor in how they’re pushing forward.

Sunday’s larger picture adds pressure and possibility for Milwaukee.. All five NL Central teams are set to finish the day over .500, continuing a trend in the division.. The Brewers and Cardinals enter Sunday tied for second, 1.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs.. With Yelich and another offensive star back. Milwaukee can make a serious run for a second straight division title. starting with whether it can turn this weekend into a clean sweep.

The pattern is easy to spot across the Brewers’ recent schedule of setbacks and returns: after Yelich missed 24 games due to a groin injury. he returned against the Padres only to be held out four straight games with back soreness. and then he returned again with the Twins—while injuries elsewhere in the season (including Chourio’s hand issue and Peralta’s offseason trade) created early gaps that the team is now trying to close.

Milwaukee’s next step after Sunday is already in focus, too. The Brewers are set to head to Wrigley Field for three with the Cubs coming up.
