Amber Suchomel’s message landed with raw urgency after the life of her fiancée, NBA forward Brandon Clarke, was cut short at 29.

Clarke was found dead inside a home in the San Fernando Valley. Los Angeles County. on Monday. after fire crews responded to a 911 call of a medical emergency shortly after 5pm local time.. Paramedics were reported to have declared him dead upon arrival.. Drug paraphernalia was found in the home, and his passing is being investigated as a possible overdose.

Almost a week after the death. Suchomel posted on Instagram with a string of loved-up photos and videos. including a note Clarke had written to her.. The handwritten message asked her to be his girlfriend, reading: “Amber…. I love you with all my heart, as I have for years.. As I will forever.. I know you basically have been…. but will you PLEASE BE MY GIRLFRIEND?. Your love Brandon”.. She also shared footage of Clarke getting down on one knee during a proposal on a romantic boat trip in September of last year.

“There are no words to describe this feeling,” Suchomel began in the caption.. “I never thought I’d have to live life without you.. I’m not really sure how to do this without you by my side.” She called Clarke “the most special person. with the biggest heart. ” adding that he “made an impact on so many people. but most of all me.”

“I have never felt so loved and cared for. you made me feel like the most special girl in the world. ” she wrote.. She described him as “the most impressive” presence in her life. “elite” at the things he cared about. spanning gaming to writing. making music. flying. and playing the game “with ease.” She also said he was “one of the most giving and selfless people” who made those around him feel “loved and taken care of.”

As her tribute grew more personal. Suchomel listed the ordinary moments she can no longer have—“silly jokes and childlike wonder. ” “your laugh. ” and “the way you made me laugh.” She wrote: “I miss your big arms wrapped around me. ” and “I miss waking up to you by my side.” She said she misses watching Harry Potter together “with our favorite snacks. ” the way he looked at her. and how happy he would be when she made his favorite breakfast and he “scarf it down and ask for seconds.”

She added that she misses their “deep talks & talks about our future plans,” and seeing him “so happy with our cats.” “We miss you so so much,” she wrote, before shifting to the promise that is also a plea: “This world isn’t the same without you. You were everything to me and more.”

Suchomel referenced Clarke’s proposal day as “the happiest day of my life,” writing that she had known “I was gonna spend the rest of my life with my soulmate.” She said they “were supposed to be married soon and eventually start a family and live on land with a bunch of animals and a garden.”

“All I want is to hug you and kiss you and to hold you in my arms.. I don’t know how to process that you aren’t here anymore,” she wrote.. “I love you always Brandon, forever and always”.. She concluded with the line that carried the blunt weight of disbelief: “please keep watching over me, I need you.”

Clarke had been selected by Memphis with the 25th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft. and his death came just four months before his 30th birthday.. It also followed a recent period of legal trouble in Arkansas: one month before his death. he was arrested on charges including speeding and trafficking a controlled substance.. The Cross County Sheriff’s Department booked him into jail on April 1 for improper passing. possession of a controlled substance. fleeing and exceeding the speed limit and trafficking a controlled substance.

His basketball season had been shaped by injuries.. Standing 6ft 8in. Clarke had been limited to only two games this season. after Memphis recently ruled him out for the rest of the season.. Earlier in his career with the Grizzlies. he missed 73 games—initially sitting out 26 matches after surgery on his right knee. then missing the last 46 with a right calf strain.

Earlier this week, Clarke’s body was cleared for release to his family following his sudden death. Still, the cause of death remains unclear after the Los Angeles medical examiner “deferred” the determination, and more testing is expected as authorities probe his death.

The timeline holds a grim sequence of decisions and outcomes: after a 911 call led to Clarke being pronounced dead at a home where drug paraphernalia was found. his death was moved into investigation with the medical examiner deferring the cause. while his recent arrest in Arkansas had already placed controlled substance charges at the center of his last known public chapter.
