Yahzeen Zion commits to Wisconsin over Oklahoma, LSU

Defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion picked Wisconsin for his 2027 class, choosing the Badgers over Oklahoma, LSU, and Mississippi State after announcing his decision during his official visit weekend.
For defensive lineman Yahzeen Zion, the decision came with the kind of finality that hits fast. During the weekend of his official visit to Wisconsin, the recruit announced he was committing to the Badgers for the 2027 class—beating out Oklahoma, LSU, and Mississippi State.
Zion’s stock sits in a range depending on which recruiting service you look at. He is listed as both a three-star and four-star prospect: ESPN and Rivals rate him as a four-star. while 247Sports lists him as a three-star. His announcement landed after that official visit, setting the stage for a recruitment that had promised momentum in multiple directions.
The recruitment had been lined up with official visits to Oklahoma and LSU in the following two weekends, but Wisconsin won the timing. Zion also brings positional flexibility to the Badgers’ defensive front, primarily playing as a defensive end while also lining up at defensive tackle when needed.
On the field, Zion’s production at Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona, reads like a full package for a program building from the trenches. He recorded 57 tackles for Desert Edge, including 33 solo tackles. He also added 15½ tackles for loss, four sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Zion’s physical profile is equally intriguing for a future college rotation. He is listed between 6-foot-3½, 6-foot-4, and 6-foot-5, weighing 265 pounds.
That choice matters not just as a single commitment, but as part of a broader move the Badgers have made on official visits. Wisconsin’s staff secured four commitments from six visitors last weekend, including a flip of defensive back Mekhi Williams, previously committed to Florida State.
Zion’s commitment adds to an already growing 2027 haul. He joins defensive linemen David Hill (6-3, 300) and Will Zaccagnino (6-5, 270) in Wisconsin’s 2027 class. With Zion now in the fold, the Badgers have 18 commitments in the class.
Early recruiting rankings put Wisconsin at No. 17 by 247Sports and No. 21 by Rivals, with eight recruits rated as four-star prospects across major services.
Zion’s path to Wisconsin also traces back to familiar territory in Arizona. Desert Edge High School is the same program that produced committed linebacker Nathan Jones, and it’s also where the Badgers’ redshirt sophomore Jon Jon Kamara attended before joining the college ranks.
