White Sox place Everson Pereira on concussion IL

Everson Pereira was placed on the seven-day injured list after suffering a concussion one day following a violent crash into the left-center field fence at Yankee Stadium during Chicago’s 10-5 loss.
Chicago center fielder Everson Pereira left Yankee Stadium in pain, and the White Sox confirmed the next step Thursday: the 25-year-old was placed on the seven-day injured list with a concussion.
The injury came one day after Pereira crashed into the left-center field fence at Yankee Stadium while chasing a fly ball in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s 10-5 loss to the Yankees. He tracked down Ben Rice’s ball and hit the fence near the 399-foot sign in front of the visiting bullpen. Pereira made a leaping catch before his face struck the wall. then was down for a few minutes before leaving the field. He was placed in concussion protocol.
White Sox manager Will Venable described how Pereira looked Thursday before the game against the Yankees.
“Better today but obviously banged up from last night, but he’s in good spirits and doing OK,” Venable said.
Pereira’s concussion comes after a long road back from another injury. He missed six weeks with a pectoral strain before returning earlier this month. In 21 games since his return, he is hitting .232 with three home runs and seven RBIs.
With Pereira out, Chicago recalled Junior Perez from Triple-A Charlotte and inserted him into the lineup, starting him in left field. Perez was acquired from the Athletics on May 16. For Charlotte, he hit .230 with two homers and seven RBIs in 20 games.
The White Sox also noted how quickly Perez has been moving through milestones. Perez became the 13th player to debut for the White Sox, matching the MLB record set by the 1944 Cincinnati Reds for the most debuts before the All-Star break.

Concussions in baseball are wild, man. Like how do you even come back from that fast.
Wait he hit the fence and they only did a seven-day thing? That seems kinda crazy to me. Hope he’s actually ok and not just pushing through protocol.
Isn’t this the same Pereira who was injured earlier this month? I feel like these dudes never fully heal, they just get re-listed. Also the Yankees stadium fence is like so hard… seems like MLB should pad everything.
I heard it was a “violent crash” but then it says he’s better today? I don’t really buy that, concussions can mess you up later. And now they call up Junior Perez in left like nothing happened… baseball teams always act like it’s no big deal until someone’s really messed up.
