Two hours after Del Rio officers responded to a report of a woman with multiple stab wounds. the scene shifted from emergency treatment to arrests. On Thursday. June 25. Del Rio Police Department personnel were called to Val Verde Regional Medical Center after dispatch received information about a woman injured in a stabbing.
Officers say they determined the attack happened in the 800 block of East 10th Street. They arrived at the medical facility around 2:10 p.m., then worked the case through evidence and interviews before making arrests tied to the assault.
Police identified the woman who died as Caroline Peña, 32. She was transported to a medical facility in San Antonio for treatment but later died from her injuries.
Del Rio police took into custody Kitty Mia Diaz. 21. Amaya Cookie Diaz. 19. and Kyandra Renee Faz. 21. in connection with the murder. according to the department’s media post. Investigators said they gathered surveillance video. processed evidence. conducted numerous witness interviews. and identified the three women as potentially being involved in the incident.
The arrests came in sequence after officers responded to the original call. About two hours after that response, police located and arrested Kitty Diaz and Amaya Diaz without incident. Shortly afterward, officers located and arrested Kyandra Faz connected to the investigation.
Video captured during the arrests shows both Kitty Diaz and Amaya Diaz grinning as law enforcement places them in their police vehicles. After the suspects were taken to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing, investigators were notified of the deaths.
Once investigators learned Peña had died, each woman was charged with murder and transported to the GEO Correctional Facility.
Del Rio police said the investigation remains ongoing, adding that additional charges may be filed at a later time.
