Vanilla Ice Canceled Hours Before Freedom 250 Set

Vanilla Ice’s scheduled performance at Freedom 250’s Great American State Fair on Friday, June 26, 2026—part of Trump’s U.S. 250th birthday celebration—was shut down less than two hours before it was set to begin after organizers paused the event due to heavy

Vanilla Ice didn’t get to step onstage at Freedom 250’s Great American State Fair.

He was slated to perform Friday, June 26, 2026, at President Donald Trump’s celebration marking the U.S. 250th birthday—within the “I Love the 90s!” show happening on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. But less than two hours before the performance was scheduled to begin. organizers for the Great American State Fair paused the day’s festivities as heavy rainfall moved into the area.

“Due to inclement weather in the area. the Freedom 250 Great American State Fair and FIFA World Cup 2026™ Fan Zone will be closed for the rest of the day — Friday. June 26. 2026. ” organizers wrote on X Friday afternoon. “The safety of our guests, staff, and partners remains our top priority. We are actively monitoring conditions and will provide updates as they become available. The Great American State Fair will reopen tomorrow at 10 AM.”.

As the storm effectively shut out the state fair version of the Freedom 250 celebration. Fox News aired the update. with one host asking reporter Kevin Corke. “So. is Vanilla Ice getting iced out?” Corke then pointed to the timeline organizers gave: rain moved in around 5 o’clock eastern time. and plans to “slide in there tonight. after 5 o’clock” were spoiled.

He added that while the fair was expected to reopen Saturday morning, there was no certainty about whether Vanilla Ice would stay to perform another day, saying, “We don’t know if he’s going to hang around. Lot of people were looking forward to seeing him.”

The post on the show’s social media account included the clip and echoed the same core facts: the timing of the rain, the closed-for-the-day decision, and the uncertainty about whether Vanilla Ice would return.

A representative for the Great American State Fair did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Vanilla Ice had been one of the few headliners who did not back out of Freedom 250’s planned concert series. The event later shifted: it was eventually replaced with a rally held by Trump on Thursday.

Earlier, Vanilla Ice had said he refused to be pulled into political controversy around the celebration. In comments made to TMZ, he told the outlet, “I’m here to party with America, man. Music is made to bring people together, and that’s what we are here to do. And we’re just gonna represent the ’90s.”.

His appearance became all the more notable because multiple other performers left the lineup after it was announced. Headliners including Martina McBride, Morris Day and The Time, Bret Michaels, the Commodores, Milli Vanilli, and Young MC all dropped out days after the lineup first went public.

Some performers faced criticism for participating in the Trump-organized event. McBride specifically said she exited the celebration after feeling misled about it being a “nonpartisan” celebration.

Even with the political pressure already reshaping the show, the Friday cutoff from the weather closed the door on Vanilla Ice’s scheduled set—at least for that day—just as guests were trying to make it to the National Mall before the rain fully took over.

The fair was set to reopen Saturday at 10 AM, but the question for fans remained whether Vanilla Ice would get another chance to perform.

  1. It says heavy rain shut it down, but somehow everyone’s acting like it’s a political thing. Like because it’s “Trump’s” birthday thing? I dunno, the headline made it sound way worse.

  2. Man the way Fox said “iced out” sounds like the organizers were trying to roast him. But then it’s literally just rain at like 5pm? Still, if they planned for him to “slide in there tonight,” why would they not just wait an hour?

  3. This is what happens when you schedule a concert around a hurricane season storm cloud. I swear stuff like this always gets blamed on someone else. Also “FIFA World Cup fan zone”?? So was the rain gonna ruin the whole 250th birthday celebration for real, or did they just not want him performing near the National Mall vibe? I’m confused why they couldn’t do a backup plan like in the past.
