WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — Wednesday’s field trip to High Meadow ended with sudden emergency action, and for Wethersfield’s 8th graders it meant one immediate change: they were escorted away from the area while staff and emergency responders handled a student who became unresponsive during the trip.
High Meadow staff and emergency responders acted quickly. Wethersfield students were immediately moved out of the area by school staff.
In a letter sent to 8th grade families, school officials said they understand how unsettling it can be for students to witness emergency personnel responding to a situation. They also said the students remained safe and under staff supervision throughout the incident.
The letter added that the school was unable to arrange an earlier departure, and transportation proceeded according to scheduled plans.
When the students return to school, staff will check in with them and provide support as needed. Families were encouraged to connect with their child and reach out if there are any concerns, with staff available for students who need additional support.
Springfield Public Schools later confirmed that a student was taken away in an ambulance, but did not confirm which school the student was from or the student’s condition.
