UFC’s White House show stumbles as celebrities stay away
Ahead of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House on June 14, major celebrities—including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adam Sandler, Jared Leto and Mario Lopez—are reported to have skipped the event despite receiving invitations, while ticket access is expected to be
The paparazzi lined up for a June 14 night on the South Lawn expecting glamour. Instead, the guest list is already showing a few notable gaps.
UFC Freedom 250—the event set to be held at the White House—promises “history” on the campus. but Vanity Fair reported that several major celebrities who received invitations will not be attending. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Adam Sandler, Jared Leto and Mario Lopez are all listed as absent from the event.
Other celebrity names were also mentioned as having invitations, but there’s no word yet on whether they will come. Tom Brady, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham were among those reported to have invitations. The card itself is expected to feature seven fights.
Tickets are set to be extremely difficult to get because only about 4. 300 people are expected to be seated in the temporary arena. UFC CEO Dana White said President Donald Trump would have 1. 000 tickets. White would have 200 tickets. and 200 tickets would go to Ariel Emanuel. CEO of the holding company that owns the UFC.
So why would some of the biggest names take a pass on an event positioned as a cultural moment in Washington?. The reporting raised possible deterrents, including weather and the sheer scale of the alternative viewing setup. More than 85,000 people are expected to watch on big screens across the street.
Vanity Fair’s Aidan McLaughlin wrote that the event is “a real draw for folks looking to curry favor in Trump’s Washington and for DC’s MAGA crowd. ” describing the construction of a giant light fixture called “The Claw” towering above the White House. He added that “there is one group that may well steer clear of the event: major celebrities.”.
The situation turns on a simple contrast: the UFC is staging a high-profile spectacle on one of the country’s most politically charged backdrops. with a limited-seat arena and a heavy emphasis on the Washington audience—yet the very celebrities who can signal mainstream cultural momentum appear. for now. to be opting out.
For the public outside the temporary arena, the event’s draw may still be intact. But as the White House date nears. the missing names are turning this into something else as well: a test of how far UFC’s modern mainstream status can stretch inside the constraints of a tightly rationed. invitation-driven setting.
