UFC White House event delayed as lightning risk rises
UFC White – UFC Freedom 250 at the White House faces a high lightning risk, with the National Weather Service putting the odds of a strike within 10 miles at 70% to 80%. The Paramount+ livestream is set for 8 p.m. ET, but the fights are not expected to begin until 9 p.m.
At 8 p.m. ET, the Paramount+ stream for UFC Freedom 250 is expected to be live from the White House grounds. But as the forecast tightens, the event’s biggest obstacle isn’t a rival or a referee’s decision. It’s the weather.
The National Weather Service says the chance of lightning striking within 10 miles of the White House sits at 70% to 80%. Luis Rosa of the National Weather Service said the highest likelihood for a strike would fall between 7:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Rosa said the odds of lightning are 70% to 80%. Those numbers matter because the event window overlaps almost exactly with the period when the risk is highest—meaning timing, not just attendance, is suddenly the core question.
A UFC representative said the Paramount+ livestream will start at 8 p.m. but the fights will not begin until 9 p.m. The event, originally scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET, features a seven-fight card that includes two title fights.
Storms are already moving across the region. Thunderstorms are in the area of King George, Virginia, and Rosa said there is a high likelihood the storms will move into the Capitol Beltway and within 10 miles of the White House.
The scheduling choices now hinge on the same forecast window: lightning’s peak between 7:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and a livestream that begins at 8 p.m. with fights pushed to 9 p.m. For fans planning the evening around the fights, the delay isn’t theoretical—it sits on the same clock as the forecast.
UFC Freedom 250 is being used to show how far the sport has come over the last 30 years. with Josh Peter previewing the main card for this MMA fight at the White House. Tonight. the question is whether the event can run cleanly through a stretch when the National Weather Service says the weather could interrupt it.
As the storms approach and the risk remains high for lightning within 10 miles, organizers will have to balance broadcast timing with the safest moment to begin fighting—while the storm clock continues to run.

70-80% is basically guaranteed right? That’s wild.
So they go live at 8 but don’t fight till 9… but the lightning window is 7:45 to 9:30? Sounds like somebody messed up the schedule lol. Just switch it to earlier at least?
Isn’t it already delayed though? I saw on another feed it was canceled, not delayed. Also why do they care about the 10 miles thing like the whole city isn’t the whole city.
They should’ve planned this better. If thunderstorms are near King George then of course it’s gonna roll into DC, that’s just weather 101. They say Paramount+ starts at 8 but fights 9, and meanwhile the “peak” is like almost the whole time?? So are they gonna pause matches or what. Also UFC at the White House sounds cool until the sky does its thing.
