Tyler Adams praises Freeman after World Cup milestone

Tyler Adams said he and the USMNT were “stoked” after Alex Freeman scored his first World Cup goal in the USMNT’s 2-0 win over Australia on Friday afternoon, a result that keeps the U.S. perfect in Group D.
For the USMNT, Friday afternoon didn’t just bring a win—it brought a moment that landed the way World Cup goals are supposed to. Alex Freeman scored his first World Cup goal as the United States beat Australia 2-0.
The lead arrived early when the Americans benefited from an own goal in the 13th minute. Freeman then added a second goal in the 43rd minute. and the score needed a VAR review for a potential offsides call. In the end. Freeman’s goal stood. and he and the team celebrated a breakthrough that came in only his second World Cup appearance.
Tyler Adams, Freeman’s teammate, wasted no time putting that achievement in context. Speaking after the match on the Fox broadcast, Adams said Freeman’s character has been just as noticeable as his impact on the pitch.
“Freeman is an unbelievable character that we have in our team, such an amazing young player and amazing person. And I think you could see the excitement from everybody once he scored that goal. We were all stoked. I mean, the emotion is something special when you’re playing in a World Cup. For him to get his first World Cup goal in only his second World Cup appearance is special,” Adams said.
Adams also added, “Freeman is an unbelievable character that we have in our team. Such an amazing young player and amazing person.”
The win kept the U.S. in control of Group D, with the Americans remaining perfect in the group stage and securing their place in the Round of 32. They sit at the top of the standings with six points, ahead of Australia, Turkiye, and Paraguay.
Finishing the group strong is still the next job for the U.S. The remaining Group D match is set for June 25 at 10 p.m. ET, when they take on Turkiye. Depending on how the other results fall. the Americans can also use that game to fully secure first place and set up a cleaner path through the knockout bracket.
