Trump Warns Mamdani-Backed Progressives Are ‘Animals’

Trump calls – President Donald Trump escalated his attacks on progressive Democrats who won Tuesday primaries, saying on Friday that they are communists and “animals” who “will kill your people.” Speaking at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s 2026 Policy Conference in Washingt

For the third time in less than a minute, President Donald Trump pivoted back to what he called the threat he sees spreading through Tuesday’s primary victories. This time, it wasn’t a policy proposal or a campaign target. It was a warning spoken in blunt, fearful terms.

Trump delivered the remarks on Friday during the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s 2026 Policy Conference in Washington. D.C. after progressive candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their primaries on Tuesday. Trump described those wins as “the greatest threat to our country since its founding. ” then returned to a single. escalating line of attack: the progressive movement he believes those candidates represent.

He singled out Democrats who won Tuesday — Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier. along with progressive liberal Brad Lander — and framed them as ideologically dangerous. “I’m sorry to say. but assassinations of those who oppose [communists] is a very important element of their ideology. ” Trump claimed Friday. He added that assassination was “a big deal for them,” calling the candidates “animals.”.

Trump also said, “In many cases, they are not smart, but in some cases, they are,” before warning that a progressive wave would mean people “start living in squalor.” He pointed to New York to make his case, saying, “It’s happening right now in New York.”

In the same speech. Trump drew a hard distinction between what he called the candidates and what he said communism really is. “These are not social democrats,” he said Friday. “These are hardcore godless communists.” He added, “They’re godless communists. All communists are godless. They don’t believe in God. This is the most serious threat to our country since its existence, in my opinion.”.

He went further, claiming the “ruthless communists” are “hellbent on destroying ‘all religions,’” and then tied his warning to what he described as real-world violence. Trump said “they will close your churches in this country if they go communist, and they’re trying to. They will kill your people.”

During the speech, Trump also made a separate leap to U.S. foreign policy, boasting about recent airstrikes that killed high-ranking ISIS leaders in Nigeria. He likened the toppling of leadership there to his own “war on Iran. ” then described the threat he said follows after extremists move into communities. “We know where they are. We hunt them down or we take them down. Think of it, they go into a village and they just kill everybody. It’s crazy,” Trump said. “They will close your churches in this country if they go communist, and they’re trying to. They will kill your people.”.

Trump’s remarks were also marked by the speaking style he has previously described himself as “weave,” a rambling stream-of-consciousness approach that, in his telling, conflated dangers from ISIS leaders, communism, and the progressives who won their elections in Tuesday’s primaries.

“It’s the greatest threat,” Trump said. “People don’t look at that. ‘Oh, three people were elected.’ No, no, it’s many more than three people, and the other people are being swayed because they don’t have the sense to see what’s happening. They don’t have the sense.”

The candidates Trump attacked have drawn scrutiny in recent years over criticism of Israel and what Lander. Valdez. and Chevalier said in relation to genocide in Palestine. Accusations of antisemitism have followed those criticisms. Lander is Jewish, Chevalier is Muslim, and Valdez has largely remained private about her religious beliefs.

Trump’s remarks have landed inside a broader backlash that has not been limited to Republicans. The primary wins, while upsetting Republicans, have also prompted Democrats to cast aspersions on the progressive Mamdani-backed wing. On Friday. Bill Maher. host of “Real Time. ” told his guest. Vice President JD Vance. that he might stop voting Democrat.

  1. Wait so he’s saying they’re communists and also assassinations are part of their ideology?? That’s pretty wild. I don’t even know who Mamdani is but apparently he’s tied to this somehow. Also “squalor” like… cmon.

  2. Everybody keeps saying “assassinations” but I feel like media takes one sentence and runs. Like Trump always talks rough, that’s just his style. Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier? Sounds like names from some left-wing group, so yeah I guess he’s mad they won. Still though, animals?? seems like a stretch.

  3. How is this not like… encouraging violence? He literally says “kill your people” and “assassinations” and then acts shocked. And then he’s like it’s happening right now in New York, but I’m pretty sure New York has had problems forever, not because of one primary. Also he says they aren’t social democrats which like okay but isn’t that the whole point of being progressive? I’m confused and honestly scared.
