President Donald Trump stepped into the Oval Office briefing on May 21 with a simple answer that didn’t fully land: he would like to be at his son’s wedding this weekend—but he’s not promising he can make it.

When a reporter asked whether he’d attend “your son’s wedding this weekend,” Trump said, “he’d like me to go,” adding, “I’m going to try and make it.” He then pushed back on the moment itself, calling the ceremony date “not good timing for me” amid the Iran war and “other things.”

It’s the kind of tightrope public family timing can turn into—especially for a political figure already framed by relentless scrutiny. Trump even acknowledged the backlash either way, saying, “That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend I get killed. by the fake news of course I’m talking about.” He closed the exchange with a wish that sounded like a human aside: “Hopefully they’re gonna have a great marriage.”.

Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson. 39. are reportedly set to marry over Memorial Day weekend. with Page Six and the Daily Mail earlier reporting the timing before Trump appeared to confirm it on May 21. The wedding would be Trump Jr.’s second marriage; he and Vanessa Trump divorced in 2018 and share five children. including golfer Kai Trump. He was previously engaged to U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle.

Trump Jr. and Anderson confirmed their engagement in December 2025 after about a year of dating. Earlier this month, Trump Jr. also addressed questions about whether the wedding date would shift. After Page Six reported that he and Anderson were postponing their nuptials in light of the Iran war, Trump Jr. wrote on X, “News to me.”.

A smaller celebration appears to be part of the plan. Trump said his son’s wedding would be a “small. little. private affair.” CNN and Page Six reported the ceremony will take place at a private island in the Bahamas with only family and close friends in attendance. Multiple outlets—Page Six. People. and the Daily Mail—had previously reported that the couple had been considering a larger celebration but decided to scale it back because of ongoing global tensions. including the Iran war.

The lead-up also comes with familiar Trump family imagery: the wedding is expected to follow Anderson’s bridal shower at Mar-a-Lago last month. That event included Anderson’s future sisters-in-law—Ivanka Trump, Tiffany Trump, and Lara Trump—as well as Trump Jr. himself.

Anderson, for her part, is described as a socialite and model from Palm Beach, Florida. On Instagram. she describes herself as “your typical stay at home mom…only I don’t do household chores…or have a husband…or have kids..” She is the daughter of Inger Anderson and the late Palm Beach businessman and philanthropist Harry Loy Anderson Jr. according to his obituary in the Palm Beach Daily News. part of the USA TODAY Network.

In a March 2024 podcast appearance. Anderson said she went to Columbia University in New York and lived there for three years after graduating. but otherwise has lived in Florida her whole life. She also said she grew up attending prestigious private schools including the Palm Beach Day Academy and Saint Andrew’s School.

Her LinkedIn lists her job as the executive director of Paradise.ngo, an environmental conservation group. A 2022 profile in Palm Beach Illustrated said she has worked alongside her brother. Kent Anderson. on funding for films about environmental conservation. According to the group’s website, Bettina Anderson “loves being in the water” and is a licensed rebreather tech diver.

For now. the most immediate unanswered question isn’t about the bride or the location—it’s about the person standing at the center of the ceremony’s political and media orbit. Trump has said he will “try” to attend. while insisting the timing isn’t right for him “amid the Iran war and other things. ” leaving his presence. at least in practice. tied to a weekend schedule and a far more unpredictable news cycle.
