Trump says “I don’t care” while UFC plans rise

Trump “I – President Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed economic concerns and voter anxiety about the cost of living, including telling a May 27 Cabinet meeting, “I don’t care about the midterms.” At the same time, the White House is advancing high-profile plans tied

On May 27, during a Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump dismissed concerns tied to the Iran war—an effort that he said is costing taxpayers dearly—summing up his attitude toward political consequences with one line: “I don’t care about the midterms.”

A week earlier, the language was just as blunt when asked about the war’s economic toll on Americans. He answered, “I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.”

Then, on May 19, standing by the rubble that had been the White House East Wing, Trump played down the strain he has helped put on everyday budgets. Asked about economic pain Americans say they’re feeling tied to the Iran war, he called it “peanuts.”

Those comments land as anger has been rising. The reporting reflects a surge in Americans saying Trump is the source of their stress—stress that many connect directly to the prices they pay for food and fuel.

The president’s response, critics say, is not to engage with that pressure. It is to talk and plan for spectacle.

Trump’s birthday UFC event is now taking shape with a temporary arena set for the White House South Lawn, tied to “Freedom 250,” and scheduled for June 14, which is also his 80th birthday. Construction has begun on the White House South Lawn arena, with 5,000 invited guests.

As the structure rises, frustration has sharpened around the optics: the White House presently looks like someone is installing a roller coaster on the lawn, with a towering structure that will hold lights and large screens for the upcoming UFC fight.

The Associated Press reported that the fighting cage and stage “will themselves be surrounded by thousands of temporary seats, including ringside space for a full marching band that can set the entire scene to blaring music.”

Trump’s focus on the event isn’t limited to private planning, either. The reporting says Reuters found the president has publicly mentioned the ballroom—linked to his long-promised project—“either via speeches. social media posts. or in comments to reporters” at least 40 times this year. The Washington Post reviewed how often he has brought it up and found it was raised about a third of the days this year. “on about as many days as he has mentioned health insurance and ‘affordability.’ ”.

In the middle of those repeated messages, the White House is also spending public money on visible upgrades in Washington, DC.

On May 28, the administration was reported to be shelling out $5 million in taxpayer money to cover four bronze statues in the capital in 23.75-karat gold leaf.

Taken together—public comments that show little concern for political fallout or household strain, coupled with large, attention-grabbing projects—Trump’s critics argue the disconnect is not subtle. Polling adds weight to that claim.

A poll released May 27 by Talarico’s poll partner Verasight. as reported. found “41% of Americans say President Trump and his administration are most responsible for the cost-of-living problems people face today. ” a share described as “more than two-and-a-half times the share who blame Joe Biden and the previous administration (16%).”.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll put the president’s approval rating at 35% and found 46% of Republicans believe he is doing a bad job on cost of living.

A New York Times/Siena poll showed nearly 70% of independent voters disapprove of the job Trump is doing. Among all voters, 44% said President Ballroom’s policies had hurt them personally.

For many voters, the issue is not only who is at fault, but what leadership looks like when households are squeezed. Food and fuel prices are driving stress, and a growing share of people say the president’s choices are to blame.

The scramble for cameras in Washington. DC—gold leaf. temporary stages. and large-ticket projects—clashes with the day-to-day budgets described by those surveys. creating a tension that runs straight through Trump’s own statements. He told the Cabinet he doesn’t care about the midterms. He said he doesn’t think about Americans’ financial situation. And when confronted with the economic pain tied to the Iran war, he called it “peanuts.”.

Analytically, the sequence of statements and the visible spending make one story hard to ignore: when costs and political consequences are raised, Trump’s language minimizes them, while the administration continues to push forward high-profile plans tied to his preferred branding and staged moments.

The June 14 event is already positioned as a centerpiece. It will arrive on Trump’s 80th birthday, and it may offer him the kind of imagery he prefers—gold, glitter, and grandeur—while he turns to the cameras.

The reporting suggests he is likely to revisit the same core message. Even without new quotes, critics say his actions have been doing the talking.

  1. Okay but UFC on the White House lawn sounds insane. Like we’re worried about gas and food, and he’s over here building a whole arena?? Also “peanuts” is just gross.

  2. Maybe it’s not even that expensive, they probably got private funding or something. People always blow it up like everything is taxpayer money… but still the optics do look bad. I guess the “Freedom 250” thing is like racing not UFC? I’m confused lol.

  3. This is why people are mad. He’s like “don’t think about Americans’ financial situation” but then complains about elections? And the Iran war comments—calling it peanuts—mean he’s basically ignoring inflation. Also putting a temporary roller coaster/UFC looking stage on the South Lawn on his birthday… idk it feels like trolling the country. Don’t care about midterms my butt.
