The line starts forming before the summer stuff even looks real—Trader Joe’s is preparing another tote drop, and this one is built for quick runs and “just a few items” trips.
The California-based grocery chain says its new striped canvas mini tote bags will arrive in stores beginning Wednesday, June 17. The bags come in four different striped pastel colors and measure 13 inches long, 11 inches tall, and six inches wide.
They’re made from a heavy-duty blend of cotton and polyester, and each bag includes a pocket on each side. Trader Joe’s also warned customers that supplies are limited.
For shoppers who want one, the price is set at $2.99 per tote.
Trader Joe’s said the size is ideal for smaller shopping trips—specifically to grab the few items people forget when they shop the first time around. “Just be sure to pick up a Tote while you can—supplies are limited,” the company said in an emailed statement.
The tote drop lands on top of a lineup that has drawn serious attention for months. Trader Joe’s has been leaning into collectible bag culture. from “Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes” to “Micro Totes. ” including recently released insulated mini tote bags. A lavender version of the $8.99 reusable insulated bag debuted in stores. the chain brought back pastel mini canvas tote bags in March. and it also launched a new large canvas bag.
Those compact totes have developed a cult-like following among customers who treat them like accessories as much as grocery gear. The bags first went viral in March 2024, with social media hype making it harder for shoppers to find them.
As the demand grows, the company says it has tried to clamp down on copies. Trader Joe’s told shoppers it has recently filed a lawsuit to protect customers from knockoff tote bags sold online.
“We are aware that some knockoff totes are being sold online and have recently filed a lawsuit to protect our customers from being misled,” the company said in an emailed statement. Trader Joe’s also said it only offers Trader Joe’s products for sale inside its stores.
The aftermarket pressure is not confined to the U.S. Trader Joe’s tote bags have found fans abroad. with listings on international marketplaces including Coupang. Depop. and Karrot. as well as eBay and Mercari. Because there are no Trader Joe’s stores abroad, resale prices posted by U.S. shoppers can run dramatically higher than in-store prices—sometimes exceeding $1,000.
The sequence of these moves is straightforward: Trader Joe’s keeps expanding a tote lineup that spreads fast. then races to manage the spillover—first with limited in-store supply. and then with legal action aimed at knockoffs showing up online. With June 17 approaching, the message for shoppers is clear: this one is cheap, specific, and likely to disappear quickly.
