FIFA misses resale pay dates as fans wait

FIFA resale – Supporters who sold World Cup tickets through FIFA’s official resale marketplace say reimbursements have not been made within the 60-day window. One seller who moved tickets for Norway’s match against Iraq in Foxborough for about £1,250 says the deadline passe
For one supporter, the countdown is supposed to be simple: sell through FIFA’s official resale marketplace, hit the platform’s terms, and receive payment within the promised timeframe.
That promise has turned into a waiting game. The individual sold tickets on April 2 for Norway’s match against Iraq in Foxborough for approximately £1,250 through FIFA’s official resale platform. The payment deadline passed on June 1, yet they say the funds still haven’t landed.
FIFA’s resale initiative is pitched as protection for supporters against invalid or unauthorised resale. The marketplace works by charging both buyer and seller, taking a 30 per cent cut of any sale. FIFA’s own terms and conditions then set expectations for the seller: after a sale is processed. sellers should receive payment within 60 days of a ticket being sold on the platform.
Documents seen ahead of this summer’s tournament suggest reimbursements have not always followed that schedule. In the Norway-Iraq case, FIFA confirmed the supporter’s payment details were received on May 12, but payment has not been made.
The seller has requested an update from FIFA. FIFA has been contacted for comment.
On FIFA’s website. the terms spell out what the seller is supposed to receive if a listing is successfully resold or exchanged—“the resale/exchange price minus the resale/exchange fee and any applicable taxes or deductions.” Payment is said to be made within 60 calendar days from the date the ticket is purchased by the new buyer. or a shorter period if required by applicable law. as long as the seller has met all terms and submitted the required payment information. The terms point to Clause 9.4 of the Ticket Transfer and Resale Terms and the Ticket Transfer and Exchange Terms.
The situation sits inside a run of ticketing problems that has already strained trust ahead of the tournament. Earlier this week. FIFA faced allegations that it has been working with third-party resale platforms to shift large quantities of tickets despite repeatedly warning supporters against using such platforms. There has also been backlash over inflated ticket prices. with a seat at the final on July 18 reportedly costing as much as £24. 500.
FIFA has also been forced to confront another operational failure: a website glitch that allowed dozens of fans to claim free tickets. FIFA acknowledged the error, saying around 60 fans obtained freebies, and said those affected are now being asked to pay or face having their tickets cancelled.
In a statement to Daily Mail Sport. FIFA said approximately 60 FIFA World Cup 2026 fans received a communication on Wednesday. 3 June. regarding tickets allocated at no charge (0 USD) due to a prior payment issue during the checkout process. FIFA said the tickets requested by those fans remain reserved and the affected fans were invited to complete payment of the correct amount. adding that FIFA regrets the error and any inconvenience caused.
The same calendar that begins resolving those ticketing failures is also moving toward the tournament itself. The World Cup kicks off on June 11 when Mexico host South Africa in the opening game.
For supporters selling on FIFA’s official resale marketplace, the deadline has already come and gone. The only thing left, for now, is whether the reimbursements will arrive before the next round of matchday schedules makes the delay feel permanent.

Wait, so FIFA took their cut and now can’t pay people? Love that.
60 days my foot. If they’re charging fees from both sides then where is the money. I’m not even a soccer fan and this sounds shady.
So they confirmed the payment details May 12 and still nothing by June 1? That’s like… what, a month late? Probably just sitting in some FIFA black hole. Also the whole resale thing is supposed to stop fake tickets but it’s still a mess.
Honestly I don’t even get FIFA resale like why do they need a marketplace at all, just send money after the match like normal. If they’re holding it “within 60 calendar days” then maybe the buyer never paid or the tickets got re-scanned wrong or whatever. Either way, big org, small accountability.
