The Boys ends—Prime Video readies Vought Rising

Prime Video’s The Boys wrapped with a Season 5 finale, and the streamer is already turning the page: Vought Rising is confirmed for 2027 with Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash returning—while Collider previews how Season 5’s music and final-season scoring came togeth
For The Boys fans, the final goodbye didn’t sneak up quietly. Prime Video’s superhero show came to a close with a Season 5 finale that delivered the kind of ending viewers only get when a story knows it’s running out of road.
The audience was also given a rare kind of closure going into Season 5. Fans knew ahead of time that Season 5 would be the last season, which adds a different weight to every twist as the series heads toward the ending writers intended.
And while there may not be another season of The Boys to look forward to, Prime Video isn’t leaving the franchise hanging. Gen V has already been canceled after two seasons, but the next step in the wider universe is set: a new prequel series titled Vought Rising.
Prime Video has confirmed that Vought Rising will air sometime in 2027. The streamer also debuted the first official trailer for the new show. The series is built around a familiar foundation from earlier in The Boys’ world. bringing back Jensen Ackles to play Soldier Boy and Aya Cash to play Clara Vought.
There’s more than just returning stars, too. Mason Dye will appear as Bombsight. Dye previously appeared in an episode of The Boys Season 5. and his showdown with Ackles’ Soldier Boy was described as a taste of what fans can expect to see in Vought Rising. The rest of the announced cast includes Will Hochman as Torpedo. Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. and Clem McIntosh as Sgt. Dale Wilson.
Behind the camera, the show’s creative leadership looks a bit different than it does for The Boys itself. The Boys creator Eric Kripke did not write Vought Rising, but he is producing the show and is involved in creative decisions.
As that future prequel waits for 2027, Collider is partnering with Prime Video to exclusively preview a new behind-the-scenes look at the final season of The Boys. The spotlight falls on something many viewers feel but may not always think about: the music.
In that exclusive preview, the work of composers Matt Bowen and Christopher Lennertz is framed as a key part of how Season 5 landed. The behind-the-scenes look also credits Keith Herron for operating the camera and Ric Serena for working as the editor.
Bowen and Lennertz also shared a statement about their time on the show. Their message reads: “Everything we learned over the life of this show — every instinct. every risk — we poured into this final season. The score has never been this big. this emotional. or this relentless. and we think the Season 5 soundtrack captures the most ambitious work we’ve done for the series — the tension is sharper. the emotional swings are bigger. and the music goes to places we never would have attempted in earlier seasons. It’s the most complete and fearless work we’ve done on the show. and we think it’s the score this finale deserved.”.
One more reminder of how the franchise is evolving comes in the way the timelines overlap: Season 5 is done, Gen V is canceled after two seasons, and Vought Rising is already moving toward production and release.
The Boys is now streaming on Prime Video, and Collider is set to stay tuned for more coverage of Vought Rising.
The Boys Prime Video Vought Rising Jensen Ackles Aya Cash Soldier Boy Clara Vought Matt Bowen Christopher Lennertz Gen V canceled Collider exclusive Eric Kripke
Wait so The Boys is over but they’re doing a prequel? Cool I guess.
Jensen Ackles coming back is the only reason I’ll watch this. They better not mess up Clara Vought either.
I thought Gen V was gonna continue and then they just cancel it?? So Vought Rising is like the same show but earlier?? Also 2027 seems way too far, I don’t even remember what happened in season 5 already lol.
The finale was kinda bittersweet but I’m confused why they’re using Soldier Boy again. Like isn’t that character already dead or something? And the trailer already dropped so now they’re basically rushing the next thing. Prime Video really said “wrap it up” then immediately not, huh.
