The conservative radio host took aim at President Donald Trump Friday. saying Trump’s ongoing negotiations with Iran have left him “beclowned.” Erickson pointed to a Thursday sequence of Trump announcements that. in his telling. swung from bold promises to the sudden claim of a “great settlement”—a shift that sent the stock market surging as it recovered losses from previous days of conflict.
Erickson framed the contrast as the core problem: Trump’s public certainty has been met by public rejection. “At least 39 times in the last 65 days. the President of the United States has declared the United States and Iran were close to a deal only to have the Iranians openly mock him and deny it. ” Erickson wrote. describing a pattern he says has played out again and again.
He then walked through who—according to Erickson’s account—was supposed to be on board. only to publicly step away. Trump. Erickson said. claimed “buy-in” from all the major players in the region. but those countries denied knowledge of any deal. “Egypt said it had no knowledge of any deal. Israel said it had no knowledge of a deal. Then FARS. the semi-official Iranian news agency that represents the voice of the Revolutionary Guard in Iran said there was no deal. Overnight, word came the Ayatollah refused a deal. Then the Iranians started firing drones at commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz,” Erickson wrote.
In Erickson’s view, the day didn’t just end with mixed signals—it became a farce. “The President, the other day, said Iran was playing us. The only one being played is President Trump. A state of war exists between Iran and its neighbors. The ceasefire is a farce. The President has turned into a clown.”.
Erickson also zeroed in on what he called the administration’s negotiating posture toward a government he described as incapable of genuine compromise. He said it was “Obamaesque to think one can negotiate with a terrorist regime that is premised on bringing about the apocalypse.” He also dismissed claims from the Vice President that the administration is dealing with both moderates and hardliners. arguing that in Iran “the definition of a moderate” is someone who wants to “nuke Israel tomorrow. instead of today.”.
Beyond the negotiations, Erickson widened the criticism to broader strategy and regional stability. He argued Trump has made the Middle East “more unstable than before the war” by refusing to deal Iran a “knockout blow” and insisting that Israel “pull its punches.”
He said U.S. allies in the region—specifically naming Qatar, the UAE, and countries like Kuwait—can no longer rely on U.S. protection because of what he called Trump’s erratic behavior.
